Peggy Evans Garland Running for Senate/Open Seat in the 28th?

Another great Democratic candidate has joined the race to turn the State Senate blue this November. This time it's former Wesmoreland County Commonwealth's Attorney Peggy Evans Garland in the fighting 28th. Peggy is a country lawyer who resides in Montross, VA. She's also taught English & Social Studes and was a District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America. She's also written a legal advice column for the local King George newspaper, The Journal, called "Ask Peggy."

Right now, the Garland campaign is collecting the required signatures to run for the seat, which is not easy in a rural district like the 28th. However any registered voter who resides in a county that the district includes can sign it. So anyone from Stafford county can sign the petition, even if you're in someone else's district.

Here's a great piece Peggy wrote for UVA's Sorenson Political Institute some years back for those seeking political office for the first time. It may give you some insight in to who she is, and why she's so successful. Also, if she is elected, she'll be the first female attorney ever to serve in the State Senate. Amazing, huh?

(UPDATE:) D.J. McGuire, of the Chichester Must Go blog, has been told by a reliable source that John Chichester will call it a career on Monday. Hmmmm, I guess Peggy scared him off. ;)

I think she will be a great candidate! John Chichester, my old neighbor when he lived in Argyle Heights, won't be out of the woods once he gets past a wingnut opponent in the GOP primary this time!

The focus will be on exploiting the splits in the Republican Party and reminding people that this time, we actually have a Democratic candidate.

I'm already talking her up among my friends.

I like how she communicates -- clear, straightforward, unapologetic.  She sounds like a winner.

I too met Peggy Evans Garland at the Stafford Dems meeting.  She is going to be one terrific candidate!
