I followed Rev. Lawrence Davies into the event and I've seen Dick Toye of the Spotsylvania Democratic Committee, Amy LaMarca, Hap Connors, Brian Moran, Carlos (of course) and many others that I have bumped into over the past couple of years on other campaigns.
Things are currently at the "clumping stage" of little cliques of a few to a half dozen people but things are starting to calm down a bit.
The stage is being populated at this time. The sound system isn't reaching very far.
Brian provides a glimpse into Carlos' bio that embodies the American Dream. Referring to Carlos as an excellent candidate with his experiences he can bring to the House of Delegates.
Brian is followed by an introduction to the Del Toro family.
Following a talk from Hap Connors who, as a consequence of his soft spoken voice and the afor-mentioned sound system, I missed a lot of his content; the lights went out and a video was presented. Very smooth, professional presentation of his history and his activities in support of charities.
As an aside and maybe as a note-to-self, I wasn't prepared for this laptop drawing that much attention. Especially when the Howling Latina stopped by for a chat asking if I'm a blogger. I declined to claim to be one only someone who posts to RK and gets promoted for some reason.
His focus is on tasking those who represent Virginians to do their job. With a record like that of Mark Cole's, which he alluded to in non-specifics (which speaks for itself in volumes), Carlos didn't really need to go negative in his presentation. The most negative he went is saying "Mark Cole is about the politics of 'no'; I am about the politics of getting things done".
I wonder if we'll see a story in tomorrow's FreeLance-Star?
I'm going to link this to my diary on DailyKos.
I don't know how, with the obvious exception of a rabid right-winger, anyone can be in the same room with Carlos Del Toro for very long and not get caught up in his enthusiasm for becoming part of the solution as opposed to merely complaining about it.
If you happened to ever be at a Jim Webb event as I have a few times, that is as close as I can come to describing the non-tangable's of the mood and atmosphere of the event. The sincerity, humility, and taking the high road of not going negative about his opponent are very familiar in that regard.
You really need to see Carlos in person. He already has accumulated some enthusiastic support people and I'm confident that if you attend one of Carlos' events you will soon be among them!
