Thanks to everyone who gave in the first day of our 2007 Democratic candidates netroots fundraising drive. Our goal is to raise $1,000 in 15 days. So far, we've got $400 after one day. Not bad! Anyway, please give generously and help us reach our goal. Thanks again.

Remember (pitin - 2/27/2007 10:24:30 AM)
You can give as little as $1 to each candidate (try and give more if you can), but if all you can afford is a cup of coffee worth of donations, then by all means, please do so.

I did set up a monthly stipend (Teddy - 2/27/2007 10:51:29 AM)
(not in the Scaife or Coors range, but every little bit helps) so there will be ongoing money coming in until election day... but everyone who possibly can should make an initial donation because, as we all know, early money is extremely important, especially for challengers.

Definition of Progressive Candidate (Matt H - 2/27/2007 10:58:31 AM)
What criteria is used?

We're supporting DEMOCRATIC candidates (Lowell - 2/27/2007 1:13:25 PM)
Period. In the case of Lambert vs. McEachin, my argument is that by endorsing George Allen (and campaigning hard for him!), Lambert wrote himself out of the Democratic Party, so this race is "R" vs "D".

Speaking of which (pitin - 2/27/2007 4:32:37 PM)
Are you all gonna throw Donald McEachin on the combined fundraising page?

Yes, has he officially declared his candidacy? (Lowell - 2/27/2007 4:37:16 PM)
Does he have a website and a mechanism to accept donations?

Free Thinkers...it's more than just D vs R (FreemanHokie - 4/29/2007 2:00:00 PM)
R vs D....do you take the intelligent progressive thinkers of Virginia to be puppets and lemmings?  That just because a person has a D in their CSPAN title we should just support them (and visa versa)...that the  Democratic "Party Line" is the best for Black and Hispanic Americans no matter what how much suffering it may ultimately bring to our populations.  Poverty plagued public housing, dramatic increases in incarcerated African-American men, and the corrupt management of social programs or as much a outgrowth of poor Democratic policies as Republican policies.

We are Free Men and thus Free Thinkers who will not only way our political options, but also filter the political rhetoric of Rush Limbaugh, Rosie O'Donnell, and even Lowell.

Have fun voting for Benedict Lambert (Lowell - 4/29/2007 5:32:34 PM)
But in my book, anyone who campaigns for George Allen is no Democrat.  Besides, Donald McEachin is an extraordinary public servant who strongly deserves a promotion to the State Senate.  I am very proud to support Donald McEachin in this race.

Your book is a fairy tale (FreemanHokie - 4/29/2007 6:32:35 PM)
I salute you for voting with your heart.  But, if that is your primary reason for voting for Donald McEachin (that he supported Allen), your book must be the "Bell Curve" of Virginia politics.  Like the controversial book "Bell Curve" used limited science and understanding of IQ tests and physiology of African-Americans to create a foundation for suggesting African-Americans were less intelligent and genetically inferior to Whites, you use your limited understanding of the politics and the policies driving Lambert and numerous other democratic and republican legislators to sometimes support the "other side" to suggest Lambert is less of a democrat and ethically inferior to McEachin.

Using words like "extraordinary" and "deserves" is a little hyperbole isn't it.  Thus far, McEachin has had the standard speaking points that all Dems use...nothing extraordinary.  And why is he deserving?.. do I and the other voters within his district owe him something?  If he were the director of a non-profit working hard to end child homelessness I could probably agree with that argument. But he is far from that having that noble of a history.

I wish all candidates well, but none of them deserve the seat.  They have better earn it.

Man, we've got a troll infesttation here at RK (Lowell - 4/29/2007 6:49:03 PM)
So, supporting Donald McEachin means that one has to have "limited understanding?"  Nice.  Is this the attitude of all Lambert suporters?  I'll keep that in mind, to the extent that my "limited understanding" permits it.  Ha.

No sound bites please.... (FreemanHokie - 4/29/2007 7:20:03 PM)
I am a thoughtful citizen who does not appreciate the political rhetoric.  If I must qualify myself so I, a democrat, can voice opinions in a "progressive" forum without false characterization, then I will.  I am a supporter of neither person just yet. I am like thousands of democrats who are undecided, who have a vote, and want sound debate.

I am saying that dems and republicans support the other side for various noble and ignoble reasons.  The key is to identify the bad from the good and rid ourselves of those who are malignant.  This is politics...Our government was created in such a way that one side must support the other at times to push bills through.

As of yet,  you have not proven Lambert's malicious intent nor have you provided an argument that Donald McEachin is free from intentions that may bring equal shame on the "party". Or even worse..he has no intentions at all and is just a wanna be political personality.

I at least we have decades of voting, speeches, observations, and political analysis to critique Lambert.  I know where he stands in spite of his decision to support Allen.

What details do we know about McEachin's political actions (not philosophies)?  If you have the details, please post them. If you have already posted them, please direct me to them.

He's listed under House candidates (Lowell - 2/27/2007 5:04:48 PM)
right now.  What I'm asking is whether he's officially declared against Benedict Lambert.  Thanks.

I'm really hoping (pitin - 2/27/2007 5:11:55 PM)
I put in an e-mail, we'll see if he responds.
