Bob McDonnell's Anti-Kaine Blog

I received this from a reader, and thought it was worth passing on.  I welcome a response from Attorney General McDonnell and/or Charles Slemp.  They can e-mail me at lowell@raisingkaine.com.  Thanks.

Just FYI, Attorney General McDonnell appeared on The 700 Club on Friday morning [February 16] with Pat Robertson's son.  His entire segment is online
here.

Why hasn't anyone reported that the "Southwest by Southeast" blog is run out of Attorney General McDonnell's office? The proprietor, Charles Slemp, who's currently a student at Regent University, was Jerry Kilgore and Bob McDonnell's scheduler.

I'm sure Gov. Kaine and his allies would be interested to know this, particularly with postings like this.

Although [Slemp] started the blog after moving from the Attorney General's Office to Regent, he still does work for McDonnell, like staffing him at some  events. (Though he isn't technically on the state's payroll.) But the blog is directed out of the AG's office.  [Slemp] even participates in McDonnell's "blog conference calls" on behalf of the "Southwest by Southeast" blog. Doesn't sound kosher.

So what's the deal here?  Is Attorney General Bob McDonnell directing a nasty, anti-Kaine blog out of his own office?  And is this "kosher" or not?

has been running for Governor ever since he became Atty Gen. He offers "legal opinions" consistently designed to frustrate Kaine's campaign promises, just as Speaker Howell seeks to frustrate Kaine legislatively. Kaine invites the man to dinner and seeks a courteous, even friendly relationship with him, but personal congeniality has nothing to do with politics after the dinner is over.

Arg!

Iaquinto, Robertson and McDonnell

Regent is one of the lowest ranked law schools in the country (PM - 2/25/2007 5:41:37 PM)
I've said this before, but on the basis of educational background, most Virginia lawyers are more qualified to be AG than our current AG, who went to Regent.

Regent University Law School is ranked in the fourth tier by U.S News & World Report.  http://www.usnews.co...  Regent is ranked 170th (out of 181 surveyed) for percentage of people passing the bar, using a four year average.  http://www.usnews.co... (Schools' Pass Rate vs. State's Avg. Bar Pass Rate)  It does a little better in those who have jobs 9 months after graduating - it's 167th out of 181 (four yr. average).  http://www.ilrg.com/...  Its acceptance rate is 172nd out of 181 (meaning it accepts anyone with opposable thumbs).  http://www.ilrg.com/... LSAT scores? It ranks 160th.

Does educational background matter?  Well, it does to private firms and the federal government.

Virginia can do better.

For real? (Houdon - 2/25/2007 11:35:29 PM)
Is this a joke? When your source says that he "isn't technically on the state's payroll" is that the same thing as NOT AT ALL on the State's payroll?

Giving credence to crap like this brings down the integrity of this forum. At least the South-by-whatever that-blog-is-called stuck to political/policy criticisms instead of personal attacks on an elected official's educational background.

Don't Give Him Credit (truth_2_tell - 2/26/2007 11:22:15 AM)
Don't worry guys, little Chuckie has a lot to learn before he will ever be a threat to anyone. He got out of Lee County to Richmond riding the coattails of Jerry Kilgore as one of his hair-gelled groupies. He didn't earn his way there, as the boy has never had an original political idea. I guess Daddy's campaign donations to the Republican party have paid off in some respect. Too bad some of his political persona didn't rub off on his son too.

I am sure if he is posting anything to a blog it is a feed from someone with some political sense, however misguided. Chuckie barely made an impact at college, where he ran a functioning College Republican group into the ground as President and the sponsor had to appoint someone to finish his term. Explains why he would go to Regent. Not many places you can go when you have never impressed anyone anywhere you have been. Go back to singing your gospel music Chuckie, politics is not a good career choice for ya.
