BRISTOL, Va. - U.S. firms with overseas customer-service operations are putting crucial personal information at risk, U.S. Sen. Jim Webb said Tuesday.

During a meeting with the Bristol Herald Courier editorial board, the Virginia Democrat said he was concerned about the security implications of such operations. Webb also praised the decision by CGI-AMS to locate its new facility in Russell County.

"When you start sending data to India and subcontracting it down to China, that's an issue," Webb said. "It's a liability issue for a lot of the companies and a security issue for the government. And it's an additional incentive for building up areas like Lebanon."

Herald Courier: "Listen to Webb. Let him lead" (mkfox - 2/21/2007 2:46:09 PM)
Virginia's freshman U.S. Sen. Jim Webb erupted onto the national stage with his blunt talk about Iraq in response to the State of the Union address.

The president "took us to war recklessly," Webb said in the Democratic rebuttal last month. The American people and the military no longer support the war "the way it is being fought," he said.

This was not just rhetorical condemnation of an unpopular war being waged by an unpopular president. Webb - no military or foreign policy neophyte - now backs his tough talk with a detailed plan of action that has the potential to salvage something from the morass that is Iraq.

Listen to him. Let him lead.

There are some moves to give security clearances to foreigners under various student and NIVs by the DoD.

This is just OMG, for right now industrial espionage is 200B losses, can you imagine this, enabling other nations to just walk out of the store with confidential information?
