Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H Con Res 63, "Disapproving of the decision of the President announced on January 10, 2007, to deploy more than 20,000 additional United States combat troops to Iraq." The vote was 246-182 in favor of the resolution, with 6 not voting. Of the 246 voting "yes," 229 were Democrats and 17 were Republicans. The Virginia delegation voted as follows:
*Rick Boucher (D-9), Tom Davis (R-11), Jim Moran (D-8), and Bobby Scott (D-5) voted yes.
*Eric Cantor (R-7), Thelma Drake (R-2), Randy Forbes (R-4), Virgil Goode (R-5), Bob Goodlatte (R-6), and Frank Wolf (R-10) voted no.
*Jo Ann Davis (R-1) did not vote.
Here's what Jim Moran had to say on the floor of the House:
I would like to paraphrase a poem that Rudyard Kipling wrote upon the death of his son in World War I that seems particularly apt to the war in Iraq:
When they ask why the young men died
Tell them it's because the old men lied.
Now, here's Virgil Goode:
I fear that radical Muslims who want to control the Middle East and ultimately the world would love to see 'In God We Trust' stricken from our money and replaced with 'In Muhammad We Trust.'"
Jim Moran and Virgil Goode: that's about as great a contrast as you can get!
P.S. Eric Cantor apparently opposes Democracy, arguing that "Our enemies will be the only ones satisfied by this debate." Fascinating.
Comments
Virgil Goode is hysterical (Josh - 2/17/2007 9:16:07 AM)
not funny, literally hysterical, raving, psychopathic, crazed.
Jo Ann Davis (1st District) -- Once again she's.... (Dianne - 2/17/2007 9:24:04 AM)
a no show. She, once again, fails to go on the record!
