I am super busy at work today due to snow that didn't fall here but affected the systems we use due to server locations. However, I wanted to pop in and get an estimate of which shiny and smiling Democratic faces I will be seeing this weekend.
What are your plans for the JJ weekend? Are you in Richmond all weekend? Do you need suggestions on places to go, things to see? Or, if not, what else is going on with you?
Let us know in this PHABULOUS open thread!

I will be there (Chris Guy - 2/16/2007 12:32:06 PM)
with my wife Nancy. We will stop and say hi to Sen. Webb before dinner w/ Sen. Obama.
I'll see you there, Chris. (phriendlyjaime - 2/16/2007 12:44:28 PM)
We'll also be attending Webb's reception and the dinner. We live 4 blocks away, which is awesome since parking will inevitably be a pain in the arse.
Parking will be so bad... (Chris Guy - 2/16/2007 6:53:57 PM)
I may walk from Fredericksburg.
Not going.. (drmontoya - 2/16/2007 12:34:35 PM)
Wanted to but never got around to buying tickets. Money is tight with a baby! But I have a friend getting married tomorrow in Burke so.. I shall be attending her wedding and reception.
That reminds me.. I need to get her gift.
okay, gotta run!
I totally understand. (phriendlyjaime - 2/16/2007 12:45:25 PM)
We'll have to meet up soon though, I would love to meet your new addition to the family! :)
arriving in time for Creigh's panel discussion (teacherken - 2/16/2007 1:04:46 PM)
have not yet figured out parking, and what we do from then until Webb reception.
Leaves on the Current also coming
can't afford $500 for the two of us for Chap's and have already given him a C-note
contact me offline at kber at earthlink dot net with a contact phone number for you and Thaddeus
I'm Heading down as well (pitin - 2/16/2007 1:16:41 PM)
just snagged some tickets yesterday, and also short on the dime :o(
Perhaps, we could have a gathering of netroots characters down in Richmond, I'll send you an e-mail off-thread.
Also, what are the details for Webb's event, I deleted that e-mail because I wasn't planning on being in Richmond when I received it.
Webb reception details.... (phriendlyjaime - 2/16/2007 1:32:20 PM)
here
My email is jaimes2cool at yahoo dot com. For anyone who thinks that is a weird email address, let me explain (I have had this question before). You never put your email address in full online as it can be picked up by spammers very easily, ie: someguy@yahoo.com
Sooooooooo, to make my email address work like a real email address, replace the "at" and the "dot" with the appropriate symbols. :)
Too much money this time (Used2Bneutral - 2/16/2007 1:34:02 PM)
Hotel plus tickets plus normal expenses/meals and gas/parking for the three of us Dems, it would have been close to $1k which is not an option right now..... sorry to miss you all.....
Leaving at 6 AM (elevandoski - 2/16/2007 1:33:44 PM)
I'm there all day... Women's breakfast, awards luncheon, Deeds thing, Webb thing, Obama thing. I'll have my handy-dandy digital voice recorder and my laptop (does the Conv. Ctr. have wifi?) to hopefully do some podcasting. Give me ideas for that one, okay?
To be honest, my dad is underwriting my day. He heard that Obama was speaking and said he wanted to go even though he is a Maryland Dem, and offered to by 2 tix (him and me). Then he found out it was in Richmond (I think he was thinking Northern VA for some reason) and bailed out but was still willing to help me out coz it would have been difficult and not very likely otherwise. I have 2 teenagers and 1 pre-teen... need I say more?
Will Be There (Mark - 2/16/2007 2:11:03 PM)
tonight, and all day tomorrow. Cocktails tonight, Central Committee meeting in the morning (10AM) and then Creigh Deeds at 1:30PM. Of course, dinner with Barack Obama.
As far as I know, the Convention Center does not have wi-fi, however, it is right across the street from the Mariott, which does. Also, plenty of hospitality suites going on Saturday afternoon; Black Caucus, etc.
I will be taping and taking stills all the while I am there. Maybe also some podcast recordings. I can strip the audio from a video and make a podcast as well, so that will be an option. I also have a microphone setup that attaches to my laptop, for recording sound only.
See everybody there!!
first (S. Becker - 2/16/2007 2:16:12 PM)
This will be my first JJ Dinner and I am very excited! I look forward to meeting many people I have only talked to or corresponded through email / blogs.
JJ rookie... (Ghost of A.L. Philpott - 2/16/2007 2:22:16 PM)
..I'll be making my first JJ appearance, in addition to Webb's reception and Sen. Deed's panel. In the process of planning some kind of drinking function with some other Sorensen graduates. I know I'm a week old at RK but, just throwing my .02 in!
I have suggestions (phriendlyjaime - 2/16/2007 3:06:03 PM)
for bars for after parties if you like. jaimes2cool at yahoo dot com.
no one has invited us to any parties .. sob... (teacherken - 2/16/2007 3:23:50 PM)
seriously, I don't know how late we will be able to stay, but would be happy for some guidance as to which are the good parties to which we can go I love schmoozing
back in my days when I was acting field director for Fritz Hollings in Penna (in 1983, after I had already moved from Keystone state to DC), we used to say of a Penna State Democratic committee get-together you needed a hollow leg, because you had to visit every caucus and candidate gettogether and they were insulted if you didn't have a drink. Given that I will probably be driving back if it is snowing, I will have to limit my alcohol, but would enjoy meeting people around the state
Don't worry (phriendlyjaime - 2/16/2007 3:56:18 PM)
we are planning on heading up the parties that seem like they are open to all in the hospitality suites. But, if people feel the need to stop schmoozing and just hit a good Richmond bar, then I definitely have suggestions.
Teacherken-I don't think it's going to snow, and frankly, I hope it doesn't. My toes will be exposed and cold. ;)
JJ Time (DukieDem - 2/16/2007 3:57:56 PM)
Headed up for Richmond Obama, should be good times
You live here. (phriendlyjaime - 2/16/2007 4:00:46 PM)
What's all this "headed to Richmond" business? ;)
BTW-you know she'll be there...and the Sasquatch may be there too...
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
Up I-85 (DukieDem - 2/16/2007 9:27:38 PM)
Well I have to drive from Durham. I'd make it there faster if it weren't for that damn city hall.
Ha! (phriendlyjaime - 2/16/2007 9:28:31 PM)
Touche.
I'll be there (Vivian J. Paige - 2/16/2007 4:26:22 PM)
Haven't decided what time I'm getting there, yet. If I go to Creigh's event, I'll have too much time with nothing to do so I may just get there in time for the Webb event. As for the parties after dinner - I won't be staying too long as I need to drive back. Tax season - can't afford to be away from work but so much :(
Jaime and all interested... (Ghost of A.L. Philpott - 2/16/2007 4:45:10 PM)
.... the 2 horses for '09, Sen. Deeds and Del. Moran, are both hosting hospitality suites (here's to hoping they card!) that I'm sure will be worth the schmooze for a little while at least. If anything, its free wine and beer!
I'll be with a local friend before the Webb reception doign some pretty serious pregaming if anyones interested!
Dropping by for Webb event (Greg - 2/16/2007 10:32:47 PM)
I waited too long and the tickets for the dinner itself were sold out... :(
But I'm headed down to Virginia Beach Saturday anyway so I am going to stop by for the Webb event from 5-6 on my way.
Hope to see some of you there.
