Gore Update Vol. XXVII #13

Another denial by Al Gore today that he has any interest in running for President has not deterred his supporters. Here's what Gore said to the press in England during another global warming related event:

"I don't have plans to be a candidate again and though I haven't... completely ruled out any possibility of running at some point in the future I don't expect to and cannot perceive circumstances in which I would."

But despite all this, his former inner circle gathered in Boston yesterday to plot his dramatic comeback:

His top policy adviser from his 2000 presidential campaign and other key supporters met Thursday in Boston to mull a potential Gore campaign. The participants and Gore's Nashville office both said Gore, who is in London, is not involved.

Elaine Kamarck, a veteran of the Clinton White House and Gore's policy guru in 2000, said the meeting was informal and shouldn't be taken as a sign there will be a Gore 2008 campaign.

If "Inconvenient Truth" wins the Best Documentary, you can bet that the director/producer will step aside and let Al Gore give the speech.  Gore has already said he'll be there.  I would not at all be surprised if AIT wins and Gore gives the acceptance speech, even though he didn't win.  This is Gore's baby, and everybody knows it.

That's fine (Chris Guy - 2/9/2007 3:36:50 PM)
But it's not his award.

The article actually says his work on global warming earned him two Oscar nods.

When Marlon Brando let a Native American accpet an Osacar on his behalf, it didn't make her an Oscar winner.

And if he does give that speech? Watch his national approval numbers plummet. Association with Hollywood is an absolute no-no in most parts of the country.

I don't think he's running (DanG - 2/9/2007 3:47:56 PM)
I would support Gore 110%. But he's not running. He knows what he wants to do.  He wants to save the world.  So he'd rather use the Oscar Platform to try to make a speech that could move some people rather than be President.

I agree (Chris Guy - 2/9/2007 3:57:28 PM)
I think what he's doing now is extremely important. And if he were to run for President, global warming would be extremely low on the list of issues people want to hear about. According to a CNN poll taken late last month, it ranks 9th in terms of what people feel is most important.

So, Chris; do you think Al Gore will win an Oscar? (cycle12 - 2/9/2007 4:48:57 PM)
Just kidding, just kidding...

Thanks!

Steve

Definetly (Chris Guy - 2/9/2007 6:13:09 PM)
He was incredible in Dreamgirls. Who knew he could sing like that?

noooooooo (Jambon - 2/9/2007 3:35:53 PM)
I'm not normally one for censorship, but I'd have NO PROBLEM supporting a Raising Kaine ban on ALL IMAGES of the Al/Tipper makeout session!

WHY CHRIS?  WHY do you make us suffer!?!

Suuuuure (Chris Guy - 2/9/2007 3:40:02 PM)
You probably imagine it's you in that picture in place of Tipper. Admit it!
