Del. Katherine Waddell and Del. Ken Plum's non-discrimination bills (HB2252 and HB2598) were railroaded in committee this morning.
Although both of these bills were reported out of subcommittee by a 3-2 vote, Virginia Beach's Del. Terrie Suit made an immediate motion to table Del. Waddell's bill. Del. Waddell was not even permitted to speak to her own bill! They did the same thing with Del. Plum's bill, initially remarking that it wasn't on the docket so they couldn't take it up. (Del. Bob Marshall had rolled the two bills into one voting block on Wednesday).
We need to get in touch with Del. Suit's office ASAP and put some pressure on her for allowing a process that didn't even allow any debate on an issue that is important to a large number of Virginia constituents. She can be contacted at 804-698-1081 or DelTSuit@house.state.va.us.
