The time has come to move on and after today I will seldom (if ever) update "The Richmond Democrat" again.
My decision to move on is being driven primarily by a change in my employment status: I have accepted a very lucrative job offer out of state and I will be moving, leaving Richmond, in the next ten days. I could prolong the goodbye a bit longer, but I really need to pack up my apartment and plan my move.
A secondary consideration is the crumbling condition of the Blogger platform. As Blogger rolled over from Blogger Classic to Blogger Beta I found myself locked out of my own Blogger account (which is why I'm cross-posting this here). Given that I had already decided to retire in the next week, I am not strongly motivated to solve the problem with my Blogger account.
My new job is quite simply an offer I cannot refuse: a generous paycheck doing something I am very good at and enjoy doing. I intend to focus my energies on this new opportunity.
I will not be taking the site down immediately--many of my old posts continue to generate hits and Google Adsense income--but it won't remain up forever. The site will come down when the hit count declines and the revenue dries up. In the future my political activity in Virginia will be limited to the strategic use of my checkbook.
I have enjoyed meeting many of my blogging colleagues and I wish you all well as you continue our many-sided discussion. Remember my advice: If everyone does their little bit, things will work out all right.
Wonderful. Congratulations and best wishes.
Many of us are in the same situation and, therefore, can't devote the time and effort required by regular blog posting. Sporadic commenting, however, requires much less time and effort but, in my opinion, also helps to stir the political pot and improve the taste of the resulting stew. Therefore, I hope you'll be able to set aside fifteen minutes here and there to continue to add your voice to Virginia's political conversation.
Glad to hear though that you will continue to help us fight the good fight with the strategic use of your checkbook. Also sounds like a good job offer. Godspeed with your newest endeavor!
Best of luck with your new venture. Our loss is their gain, whatever it is you'll be doing.
Changes...
Lots of luck and adventure to you!!!
Congrats on the new job and best of luck to you. You always had such an interesting take and perspective regarding the political world and I really enjoyed reading your posts.
best of luck and cheers,
