Okay. If you have read the majority of my diaries you can see that I have been a very consistent supporter of General Wesley Clark. After asking him if he would run for President in November and seeing his reaction I wasn't sure he would run.
Then, after meeting with John Hlinko who was at a Draft Barack Obama event as a leader I started to doubt even more. Hlinko made it clear that although he has deep admiration for Clark, he didn't think he would run.
Finally, a good friend of mine who ran a state for his campaign in the west coast who decided to officially support Obama said they had also had ruled out any support for his 2008 campaign.
So then I decided, I would support Barack Obama. Even though I think that Barack Obama would be a great candidate and a great president I am inclined to continue to support Clark due to loyalty and belief that he is the best candidate to be the President of the United States. If I had to choose the best candidate to win, I would stay with Obama.
I simply cannot. Barack Obama is a great man, and should he win the nomination I would be very happy and pleased. But, my job since April 2003 has been promoting General Clark for President. And so, here today to all my friends and foe I announce If Wes Clark does decide to run. I will support him.
I took a stand to write a letter returning from Iraq in 2003, I should not back down now. General Clark is the greatest leader I have known in my lifetime. Now, that I am a father I want to know my child's future is safe and secure at home and abroad. General Clark can provide that.
General Clark who was right about the Iraq. General Clark who was right about our leadership being stronger on National Security. General Clark who has given the Democratic Party the legitimacy in matters of Foreign Policy and Defense. General Clark who has been advocating for a clean environment. General Clark who was one of the earliest supporters of Jim Webb in March 2006.
Most Clarkies truly believe Clark will actually run for President. Based on my conversations with the several people (some I have not mentioned) who doubt that he would run in 2008 I will remain open.
But if Clark runs, I will support him wholeheartedly.
In 2004, I launched a grassroots Myspace.com page for General Clark his current page bears the same name. Recently, I have created a new Myspace.com page for his 2008 run.
www.myspace.com/clarkforpresident
If you check.. www.clarkforpresident.com is reserved.. it redirects you to Hlinko's old site "DraftWesleyClark.com" that was used to start Clark's original run in 2004.
Keep on eye on that site, and on SecuringAmerica.com
We may see some changes soon enough. Also, as an Iraq War Veteran and friend of Jon Solz the director of VoteVets PAC please check out this new ad released today: VoteVets PAC Ad
That I am ready, to be a candidate for President of the United States in 2036
Ready swifties?
Please continue to stay with Clark...
We should know his plans soon.
Thanks!
Steve
In 2004, Clark was far and away my top choice. There wasn't even a close second. I'm thrilled that this time around the decision isn't as simple. It makes me much more upbeat about the whole field of candidates in general.
Clark grassroots have already been busy. But hang on tight, cause Clark people are about to crank it up.
Wes Clark has turned my life 180 degrees from what it was in June, 2003.--
I went from an informed voter to an extremely involved Democratic Party member and office holder at the local and state levels.
Wes said our assignment was to get out there and get involved; I listened and I did.
There are a whole lot of others who have too. Carol Shea-Porter (D) of New Hampshire became involved because of Wes Clark.
I trust Gen. Clark 100% and he is still my inspiration.
I am with him until the bitter end....
Lets get serious - Clark does not stand a chance for the nomination. In order for him to do so, he would have to win one of the first four primaries/caucuses - Iowa, New Hampshire, Sotuh Carolina and Nevada. The calendar is simply stacked agaisnt him. And by waiting so long to announce and get a ground operation up and running in each of these states, he will fail again to get any traction. How can he compete with the top tier candidates in each of these states - he just does not have the appeal to the liberal types activists who particpates in these primaries in Iowa and New Hampshire. He has no appeal to African-American voters in South Carolina and I just don't see him carrying the labor or Hispanic constituencies in Nevada in a causus.
Having said all of that, I think he would make a great V.P., candidate.
DRAFT AL GORE!!!!!

Yep, those comments sound very similar to what many were saying about Jim Webb just about exactly a year ago. Hmmmmm...
Now, in case you were dozing and missed it, Wes Clark has been traveling all over the country for the past three years, staying in touch with voters, appearing on T.V. and radio shows, writing artilces for magazines and newspapers, publicly and privately supporting Democratic candidates in many states (including the recently elected junior U. S. Senator from Virginia) and he's got a book coming out this fall.
I like Al Gore, too, but Clark can win.
Finally, out of great respect for your moniker (and not knowing exactly why you chose it) as well as the fact that "Flipper" was one of my favorite T.V. shows in the mid-60's, I will offer you these website links in case you don't already have access to them:
Please don't get caught napping when Wes Clark announces his bid for the presidency, hopefully very, very soon!
And, if I'm wrong, I'll certainly support Wes Clark as Al Gore's VP, or anyone else's VP, for that matter...
Thanks!
Steve
Steve, my thoughts are based on history. Clark never connected with liberal activists in 2004 who dominate the primary process and he has not taken or changed stances to get his views more in line with those who will pick the nominee.
The only primary he won in 2004 was in Okalhoma, where the Dems are as conservtive as the Repubs., proving the point that there was no appeal to the activists nationside. The nominee will be chosen on February 5, 2007 when a large number of states will be holding primaries. I just don't see him doing well in the first four primaries/caucuses to be able to deliver a knock out punch on February 5, 2007. I just don't see liberals who will be voting in primaries in liberal leaning states like Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, California, etc., on February 5, 2007 voting for Clark.
I really think his best hope is for V.P. but I think Evan Bayh has the inside track on that, regardless who the eventual nominee is.
