WEBB HAS INFULENTIAL ROLES IN FIRST WEEK
The article goes into a little history, some political gossip and into the "meat" of the article on Webb's influence in solving the Iraq debacle.
It begins with a flare.
Virginia Sen. James Webb, a onetime varsity boxer, didn't pull any punches as he sized up President Bush's plan to send 21,500 more troops to Iraq.
Add some history
"There was really nothing that has occurred since the invasion and occupation that was not predictable," Webb scolded when his turn at the microphone finally arrived. "And really, much of it was predicted."
Brings up the gossip
Even before officially taking office this month, Webb made clear his combative style. And Webb weathered an icy exchange with Bush at a private White House reception last month, when Bush asked how the senator's son was doing in Iraq."That's between me and my boy, Mr. President," Webb replied, in curtailing the conversation
Then it recaps some of our great new Senator's work on the Foreign Relations Committee.
"Those who are pushing for a unilateral war in Iraq know full well that there is no exit strategy if we invade and stay," he wrote in a column for The Washington Post at the time. That prescience, along with his military record, now promises to make him an influential voice on Capitol Hill - and helped him win seats on the Senate's Armed Services and Foreign Relations committees.
Also included is some of the advice Webb provided to both Secretary of State Rice and Secretary of Defense Gates.
All in all, our next great Senator/Statesman Jim Webb received some great coverage in Hampton Roads this morning!
Maybe when Webb and his Populist Caucus find a way to bring healthcare to America and worker protections to our trading partners people will figure out he's the real real deal.
