Where's the snow!?!?!?! =)

Snow (Kathy Gerber - 12/25/2006 10:37:49 PM)
If had been snow, it would certainly be deep.  And I would have gone backpacking. This rain is a bit much.

From all over Virginia

Woke up at my mom's house in Annandale to celebrate X-mas morning, drove down with my dad to my grandparent's house in Fredericksburg for X-mas day lunch and celebrating, and now I'm in Richmond for the night celebrating with friends.

A Merry & Safe Christmas from All over Virgina

Tom Davis failures to oversee Defense, Interior in the news again (Andrea Chamblee - 12/25/2006 6:38:15 PM)
Today's front page of the Washington Post features another story by writers O'Harrow and Higham, who wrote about the cushy job held by the wife of Tom Davis at ICG, setting up appointments for Davis from their campaign donors. Today they write that Davis enabled millions more thievery by government contractors when internal agency oversight for DoD contracts was moved to Interior.

It is interesting that auditing for these contracts went from DoD to the Interior department. Remember who did his best work there?  Davis friend Jack Abramoff. Another Davis friend, David Safarian, now awaiting sentencing for selling government contracts, approved the contracts for GSA.  Safarian, whose wife works for Davis's Government Reform Committee, got the job after Davis fired Angela Styles who would not approve contracts from Davis's campaign contributors.
The rot of corruption infects eveything Davis touches.

This comes out on Christmas day, of course (Rebecca - 12/25/2006 10:03:15 PM)
Anybody think it is an accident that this story came out on Christmas day so nobody would read it? I would love to see an article based on an interview with Angela Styles. My Christmas prayer is "Please God, help us expose Davis in the New Year."

Merry Christmas to everyone and thanks to Andrea who has done tons of excellent investigative work.

Yes :) (Kathy Gerber - 12/25/2006 10:34:14 PM)
I hope Andrea is keeping track of her work. It may come in handy.

A Whole Family Christmas! (cycle12 - 12/25/2006 6:39:29 PM)
For the first time in four years, both our sons are with us for Christmas, one having arrived home from Taipei on December 11, and the other from Pensacola on the 23rd.

Both of them here with us; there's been no better Christmas present for our family.

Merry Christmas all!

Thanks!

Steve

Why Virgil is mad at Muslims? (Kindler - 12/25/2006 9:10:24 PM)
Taegan Goddard quotes the following from the Detroit Free Press:

"Muslims played a critical role in some key elections this year,” according to the Detroit Free Press. For example, "Muslim taxi drivers in northern Virginia took the day off to ferry Muslims to the polls" and volunteers "also made phone calls to Muslims in Virginia to urge them to vote."

"As a result, Democrat James Webb ousted incumbent Republican George Allen by about 9,000 votes in a race in which 50,000 Muslims went to the polls -- 47,000 of them voting for Webb."

Just think how many might've voted Democratic if Virgil had been thoughtful enough to speak up before Election Day...

It's nice (Kathy Gerber - 12/25/2006 10:32:33 PM)
to see a return to the original problem.  But! Not to minimize Muslim participation, I still think that an even greater impetus was that he feels less pressure to self-moderate. He was potentially radioactive for moderate supporters, and without them he is has less to lose by abandoning self-control and allying himself more closely with the far right.

I don't have numbers for the 5th, but I feel certain that the proportion of Muslims eligible to vote in the 5th are far less than in across the whole state.

Count on Virgil knowing his demographics better than we do.
