Virgil's victim responds

Remember how Virgil Goode blamed immigration for bringing us our first Muslim congressman? Well, not only is Virgil ignorant, he's ignorant too:Mr. Ellison dismissed Mr. GoodeGÇÖs comments, saying they seemed ill informed about his personal origins as well as about Constitutional protections of religious freedom. GÇ£IGÇÖm not an immigrant,GÇ¥ added Mr. Ellison, who traces his American ancestors back to 1742. GÇ£IGÇÖm an African-American.GÇ¥
Apparently, Rep.-Elect Ellison is a born and raised American who converted to Islam as an adult. Oops! Expect a follow up letter lauding "the Virgil Goode position on religious conversions." How else is he going to keep Americans like Ellison from converting to Islam and then running for Congress?
To his credit, Virgil's victim was very good-natured about the whole thing:
GÇ£IGÇÖm looking forward to making friends with Representative Goode, or at least getting to know him. I want to let him know that thereGÇÖs nothing to fear. The fact that there are many different faiths, many different colors and many different cultures in America is a great strength.GÇ¥
Good natured, but perhaps a bit too optimistic about teaching anything new to Virgil Goode.

Seems like another macaca-like event (Rebecca - 12/21/2006 5:12:40 PM)
This seems so much like the Allen macaca incident where the person was assumed to be an immigrant because of the color of his skin. I think these incidents show how out of touch the traditional white male power structure is with the ethic makeup of the US. Statistics show that white males are not in the majority anymore. I think a lot of people haven't gotten the message yet as to who the real Americans are these days.
This is almost on the par with seeing a woman in a business organization and automatically assuming she is the secretary. It is also like seeing a black person at a country club and assuming he is the valet or the lawn man. It's really very similar. These people are very out of it and we need to continue to expose them.
I must've been spell-checking when you posted. n/t (Andrea Chamblee - 12/21/2006 6:17:58 PM)
Goode's "M-word" moment (Andrea Chamblee - 12/21/2006 5:14:30 PM)
Just like Allen smeared Siddarth on the assumption that he wasn't a "real Virginian" - or a "real American" - Virgil Goode tries to smear this Congressman. His slur seems even more comparable to Allen's "M-word moment" than even RK writers first thought.
It is a Macaca moment except (thegools - 12/22/2006 1:14:35 AM)
that the election was 1.5 months ago, not 3 months from now. Too bad he didn't dod this back in August like Allen.
Irony (Oliver - 12/21/2006 5:33:00 PM)
Kinda ironic that you misspelled "ignorant." Twice.
Thanks. Fixed now. (Rob - 12/21/2006 5:38:26 PM)
A devastating hit to my credibility. But seeing how it caused you to spend the time to create an account, it was worth it! Welcome to Raising Kaine.

Or "foot in the mouth" might be better.
So Ellison has deeper American roots than Goode? Ah, sweet irony.
Freshman alert (Greg Kane - 12/22/2006 12:20:39 PM)
Note to all of the new freshman: When you're walking down the hall to your new office and you hear a scraping noise behiond you, don't be alarmed. That is only Virgil's knuckles dragging on the floor.
Laughing out loud! (cycle12 - 12/22/2006 12:40:15 PM)
Thanks, Greg; you got me laughing out loud again today with that one!

Speaking of freshmen...
Any word from Webb on this mess?
