In an early test of his presumed presidential ambitions, Gov. Mark R. Warner expects to collect at least $1 million at the first fundraising event of his national political-action committee."Our goal is to hit a million, and right now, we're at a million -- and it's coming in by the hour," Mame Reiley, a top operative for Warner's PAC, Forward Together, said yesterday.
The committee is organizing a dinner Tuesday [tomorrow night] at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Tysons Corner, the Northern Virginia seat of the information-technology industry in which Warner amassed his fortune.
The dinner opens a busy week for Warner's budding national candidacy, which got a boost from the gubernatorial victory last month of fellow Democrat Timothy M. Kaine.
The rest of the week: speaking at an early primary state on Wednesday - South Carolina - at a tribute to that state's Democratic governors and wrapping up this weekend in Florida at the state Democratic convention.
