DPVA blogger conference call

I just got off the line with various DPVA staffers, bloggers, and others interested in the online future of the state party.  The call was an effort to outreach with bloggers about the new website and more.

I'll write more details later tonight after I get my notes together, but I'll say now that it sounds like most of the ideas from our DVPA website discussions will make it onto the new site - LTE functions, personal fundraising pages, group pages, local committee pages, and more.

More details soon - I promise. Sounds like the new website will be a vast improvement.

(UPDATE: Before the call, I was given explicit permission from Greg to blog about the call. More coming...)

(UPDATE: Names removed per civil suggestion via email.)

Comments

That Greg Scanlon... (demo925 - 12/20/2006 10:22:15 PM)
The state party hired him? He is a very disrespectful guy always showing up places in dirty jeans.

Still (Kathy Gerber - 12/20/2006 10:37:14 PM)
It certainly sounds like major progress from here. You don't need to have face time with the guy.

I like Greg Scanlon (Dianne - 1/12/2007 5:34:01 PM)
He's smart and talented.

So much for being discrete (JC - 12/20/2006 10:56:48 PM)
Why don't you post the agenda and our social security numbers while you're at it?

What's the big secret? (Kathy Gerber - 12/20/2006 11:21:20 PM)
I don't get it. It's common knowledge that a bunch of folks, were planning to get together after the DPVA web site was up to collaborate. Some of these people have serious technical talent, I can't conceive of any secret so valuable that it's worth wasting people's valuable time and possibly creating ill will.  I thought that was one of the problems that we were working to eliminate.

Fear (Gordie - 12/20/2006 11:55:56 PM)
Their is nothing to fear, but fear itself.

Ye thou I walk through the valley of death I shall fear not the evil from the R's. I will joyously speak of my good wills and bring forth abundent fruit to the D's. He who is not afraid to speak their good will shall have ever lasting peace and be fruitful.

The purpose of the call (Greg Kane - 12/21/2006 1:44:28 AM)
Look at JCs response and then ask the question - what was the purpose of the call?

Hmmm, let's see . . . (JC - 12/21/2006 1:53:48 AM)
You're invited to participate in a confidential conference call and you are asked not to share that fact with others.

Five minutes after the call ends you post about the call and list the participants so everyone, including the RPV, can read along.

Don't expect to be invited to anymore confidential discussions, Sport.

Its not the RPV (Greg Kane - 12/21/2006 2:56:25 AM)
JC - think about it - Do you really think the RPV is waiting around for RK to blab about some great idea it takes to the DPVA so that - what? The RPV can run out and add that great idea to their web site? Please you're giving me a headache! The DPVA will have a new web site out in 30 days and the RPV can get to see all of the new wiz bangs first hand. This rational for secrecy is starting to sound like a White House briefing.

The bottom line is that the DPVA staff, rightly or wrongly, have been getting pounded on the blogs lately and they needed to have that toned down. The web site has been promised for a long time there have been credibility concerns. This was likely an attempt to shore up support.

Researching customer content and functional expectations along with usability issues is done at the beginning of the development cycle not in the middle or near the end. Think about it - who was doing the buying and who was doing the selling on this call?

I can guess that (Mark - 12/21/2006 2:02:06 AM)
since I am a Central Committee member AND a blogger, that I wasn't contacted for this.

Oh well. Trying to bridge the gap here, but not succeeding very well.

Great start? (CommonSense - 12/21/2006 7:51:12 AM)
If the call was billed as confidential to the participants I can understand JC's comments. And I am aware that JC might prefer his name (and others) not to be put out there in "publick".

I can also see the great enthusiasm over a ball that is finally rolling and the need to share that information as strong motivation to post.

The differences between the two positions might appear to be more damaging than any info revealed.

Please don't go down the divisive road of self-fulfilling prophecies and lose sight of the very important goal here.

i asked before the call... (Rob - 12/21/2006 9:05:40 AM)
if I could blog about it and was told yes - and I have the email to prove it.  I don't know who told JC that it was confidential, but that wasn't my understanding.

Thanks, Rob... (cycle12 - 12/21/2006 10:29:22 AM)
...all information, feedback and positive energy in general is much needed and greatly appreciated.
