Jim Gilmore: from lousy governor to president?

Looks like our lousy ex-governor is running for president. Seriously.
James S. Gilmore III, a former Virginia governor and chairman of the Republican National Committee, announced today that he would form a committee to explore a presidential bid in 2008, saying the Republican field lacked a Gǣcommitted conservativeGǥ capable of making a credible campaign for the White House.

GǣA void exists,Gǥ Mr. Gilmore said in an interview. GǣThere is just no conservative right now who can mount a national campaign.Gǥ

I can't wait to see those "No Income Tax!" bumper stickers nationwide. Or his stump speeches on CSPAN about how he fills the void on conservative fiscal policy (pay no attention to the record behind the curtain). Good times!

His Campaign Motto (Catzmaw - 12/20/2006 11:30:20 AM)
I'd like to help out Mr. Gilmore with a new motto reflecting his suitability for higher office:

Jim Gilmore:  Mediocrity on the March!

RT Editorial on Gilmore: "A committed conservative" (cycle12 - 12/22/2006 10:20:23 AM)
In today's (Friday, December 22, 2006) Roanoke Times newspaper, this editorial (http://www.roanoke.c...) entitled "A committed conservative" makes it quite clear how the RT feels about former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore's possible run for the presidency in 2008.

For example, number one in the RT's top ten reasons why Gilmore should run for president is this comment:
----------
"And the No. 1 reason to support Gilmore's presidential run: It takes money -- so much money that he won't be able to afford to run for governor in 2009."
----------
Now, that's what I call planning ahead, RT...

Thanks!

Steve
