Topic of the evening: James Martin thinks John Warner is beatable in 2008. Maybe, maybe not. Regardless, who do you want to see running against John Warner?
And any other topic welcome ....

Through a glass darkly (Silver Fox - 12/15/2006 7:47:01 PM)
So much is going to depend on the situation in Iraq as we move into the actual election cycle of 2008. If we are still mired butt deep and sinking in the bloody quicksand there, I think whatever candidate we run against a Bush-supporting incumbent Republican Senator will start with a prevailing tailwind that will blow our candidate right over the finish line. I would very much like to see Mark Warner take on John Warner because I think not only would he win, but he would make an outstanding Senator. Then we'd have TWO outstanding Senators. We'd be the envy of every other state in the nation.
But remember, we have elections in 2007 we MUST win first and if we can pull together an effective statewide organization, we can not only turn Virginia blue at the local and state levels, but it will make turning it blue on the national level that much easier when that time comes. So roll up your sleeves, open your wallets for your local candidates and get involved. Start with the local special election in January for Supervisor in Occoquan. Getting Jeff Dion elected would be a wonderful way to start the new year right...and send a message where it needs to be sent.
Since it is an open thread... (phriendlyjaime - 12/15/2006 7:53:01 PM)
YUK.
Yes, I know O/T, but it IS an open thread. :)
Listen, I happen to think Warner isn't the worst we could have. And really; I don't know WHO could beat him.
Well (Terry85 - 12/16/2006 12:04:49 AM)
It's like you said over at NLS earlier (sort of).
John Warner is not as bad as it could get, but in a Republican party where rubber stamping your own PARTY comes before constituents....you know what I'm getting at...
Richmond Free Press (Kathy Gerber - 12/15/2006 9:00:10 PM)
Just want to suggest the RFP for a holiday gift for people who don't live near Richmond. It costs about $53 / year but that doesn't even quite cover the postage, which for this copy was $1.11. They must not mail out very many because it's not a bulk rate.
This is my second one, and I'm already eager to check out the latest installment of the Green Kaechele incident.
Is this event in support of Lambert:
Virginia Union University in conjunction with Dominion Virginia Power and Living the Dream invites you to attend the 29th Annual Community Leaders Breakfast "A Celebration in Memory of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy", etc.
You're the best, Kathy. :) (phriendlyjaime - 12/15/2006 9:10:51 PM)
Additionally, I still think that doing a fundie for the Free Press to start up a website so the paper is available to a wider audience is a GREAT idea.
Hi Jaime!!! (Mark - 12/15/2006 10:46:15 PM)
How are you?
Say, is there an email from me stuck in your email inbox? I sent something two weeks ago or more, and wondered if it got lost.
Hope you are well.
It would. (Kathy Gerber - 12/15/2006 11:59:08 PM)
Do you know anyone there?
Bing - that made me think of something else. With all of the NOVA - ROVA misunderstanding that we've seen between adults, wouldn't it be a good idea to have sister schools within Virginia - pick pairs from urban, suburban, rural. Or from Tidewater, Piedmont, Mountains.
Hey Kathy!! (Mark - 12/15/2006 10:47:43 PM)
Howdy, ma'am.
How are you?
I have been trying to get ready from my daughter's visit. I hope everyone in your immediate neighborhood is doing well.
We'll talk more soon, I am sure.
Hey Mark (Kathy Gerber - 12/16/2006 12:01:47 AM)
I haven't been 100%, but nothing serious. It's nice to see you around - you've been quiet. Hi to all :)
Watch the Democratic pols run away from Warner (Kindler - 12/15/2006 11:06:42 PM)
I'd be surprised if any major Democrat challenges Warner. Most established politicians seem to run from a fight with an opponent whose poll ratings and reputation are as high as Warner's.
That would leave someone coming out of left field, as Jim Webb did -- which, hey, worked out pretty well, huh?
Sidarth - person of the year (Kathy Gerber - 12/16/2006 12:37:45 AM)
This is wonderful news. Go read the article via

Congratulations, Sidarth!
Can blacknell.net be added to the blogroll?
yes - I'm planning on adding that site... (Rob - 12/16/2006 8:46:28 AM)
and a few others. Just haven't gotten around to it just yet.
