According to ... well, himself. (LibPro has more).I have decided to devote my full time to [national] security responsibilities in the Senate and the demands of a vigorous and challenging reelection campaign.... Such dedication of my time will allow me to continue focusing on Virginia's and America's priorities in the area of national security, and to campaign for the Senate.
Update your predictions accordingly.
(Side note: The article reports that Warner sounds like he won't seek the top minority slot on the Environment Committee. Global warming bamboozlers can breathe easier.)

Glad to hear it (Carrington - 12/15/2006 12:56:16 PM)
John Warner is the only Republican I've ever voted for...and I'll proudly do it again if he runs for re-election. He is a great man and an able ambassador for Virginia and the country. We need more statesmen like him...not fewer.
I'll take a Senator John Warner for as many years as he sees fit to serve.
I'll wait until I see who is running against him (thegools - 12/15/2006 1:21:38 PM)
before I make up my mind.
I would vote for him over a stinker, or over a Right wing primary opponant, however, there are people I would vote for over John Warner. Mark for one.
I voted for Mark in 1996, but it was a hard decision. This time it would not be...even though I respect John Warner a great deal.
you're right (Carrington - 12/15/2006 1:59:19 PM)
But Mark Warner would never run against John Warner again. No chance. It'd be someone else and, frankly, I can't imagine any of the current players I'd rather see in that spot. A senior, respected voice of moderation in the Republican caucus is worth not having a D in that office, particularly when control of the Senate doesn't rest on it.
Problem Being (DukieDem - 12/15/2006 3:18:14 PM)
With the R's out of the majority, we already have our side watching foreign policy. I like Warner, but I'm much happier having Levin and Biden look over things. And I want to expand our majorities so that we're not worried about incidents like the one with Senator Johnson.
It's hard to imagine any Democrat beating Warner, but I hope someone steps up or this is an elaborate shell game by Warner. Our best bet may be a GOP primary challenge. Ultimately Warner casts his vote for McConnell, and that's reason enough to vote against him.
Thanks (Terry85 - 12/15/2006 2:44:43 PM)
For linking me. Like I said in my entry, I can't understand why the RTD chose to word the headline "J. Warner hints of intent to run again -
Letter indicates he's 'strongly considering' bid for his sixth term" when it seems clear to anyone reading the letter he wrote to Mitch McConnell, that Warner has every intention of running again in 2008.
John Warner (drmontoya - 12/15/2006 4:39:25 PM)
Better keep his tennis shoes on, sorry old man... we are going to keep you on your toes! Even though we love ya, you have an R next to your name. And that's not what Virginia needs.
Poor Davis - run Andy Run! (totallynext - 12/15/2006 5:12:53 PM)
That sound you hear isn't thunder... (Kindler - 12/15/2006 11:02:15 PM)
...it's Tom Davis sobbing!
Re: the EPW committee, John Warner has indeed conceded to Inhofe, who will remain ranking member. But, hey, Dems will (of course) have the majority on the panel, and one of the new Repubs added to the panel is a supporter of climate change legislation -- Lamar Alexander.
So, most of the news is good, and if Inhofe and company want to keep their heads stuck in the sand, I guess that'll just have to be their problem...
