I had missed (as one of their volunteers pointed out via email), that FCDC also have a very similar site targeting Ken Cuccinelli (another subtle google-bomb) called "Kookinelli." I'm adding it to the blogroll.
My questions - are there any other sites like this out there for other Virginia GOP incumbents? How effective do you think these sites are? Anybody here planning (or know of plans) for an expansion of this battlefront?
I think the best way to make these sites effective is to advertise them. We had business cards made up which said:
"Learn the truth about Tom Davis" and listed the website URL at the bottom. We put the cards into the driver's side window of cars which had in-state license plates and which didn't display any obvious right-wing bumper stickers. In other words, we tried to target swing voters. We also made up some flyers advertising the site just before the election and put them on cars.
We know the main stream media is not going to report the truth about GOP candidates so I think Democrats need to use the power of the internet to do this job. There is a lot of information about these candidates floating around both from verbal reports and other websites which report on the Hill. All that is needed is for one or more people to do some research to get the truth out.
I suggest, however, that the sites stick with the facts and not get too shrill such as in name calling, etc. Just the facts, as detective Friday used to say. That makes the sites more credible.
Its hard to measure how effective these sites are. I think that depends on getting the word out. I can say I think it is more effective to use these sites than not to use them.
