George Allen

It has been reported by the media that George Allen made his ten minute final speech on the Senate floor last night. Allen, has to thank most of us for his early retirement.

Virginia Republican George Allen made his final speech in the U-S Senate, telling a mostly empty Senate chamber that he was "humbled" and "grateful" for having had the chance to serve.

Allen's ten-minute speech yesterday included a renewed pledge to stay active in public life. He also recounted his achievements in the Senate and as Virginia's governor in the 1990s.

But, Allen has more to worry about.
Style Weekly is reporting that Allen is having a hard time finding work after he is out of a job officially January 3rd.
In addition to McGuireWoods, Richmond law firms seem to be noncommittal for now, like at McCandlish Holton, Gov. Tim KaineGÇÖs old stomping ground.
Well, I hope George Allen has finally learned his lesson about being a bully. Time to play nice Georgie, Virginians aren't playing around.

Good luck.

Allen '09? (drmontoya - 12/7/2006 10:34:30 AM)
I think so, he's given every indication that he's going to stay out of the spotlight for a little while and try to make a comeback in 2009. Not defending Allen, but if he was a bit more positive during this campaign in 2006 and had he not hired Dick Wadhams. He may have kept his job.

Next Time George, stick to the issues.

Governor's race (KCinDC - 12/7/2006 11:33:42 AM)
Yes, it's looking more and more like a Warner-Allen faceoff in 2009. But there's still a long way to go till then.

We should send thank you cards to Dick Wadhams. (thegools - 12/7/2006 1:00:48 PM)

not to take pleasures in other peoples misfortune, but the fact that Allen is having trouble finding work just makes me giddy.

Not because he will be unemployed (he will eventually find a job, and is worth enough money that it'd be OK if it took him a few months).

It makes me happy, because people of George Allen's ilk are no longer in demand.  It's harder to find a cushy lobbying or "consultant" job because we took the majority in both chambers and Virginia law firms don't want to tie themselves to him, it's a great time to be a Democrats

Allen will triple his salary (thegools - 12/7/2006 1:03:43 PM)
now that he is out of office.  He has nothing to fear in his financial future.

Afterall, he has lifetime access to the floor of the Senate.  Don't you think there are companies out there that will pay handsomely to have an agent whispering in senators ears just before they make a crucial votes?

why oh why (chiefsjen - 12/7/2006 2:54:26 PM)
must he stay in Va?  can't he try to go mess up mississippi, alabama or something...

i'm sure he'd get a lot further with his racism there.

*sigh* please leave va Allen, you're not wanted here!!!

don't let the door hit you in the a!! on the way out. Goodbye to the 97% voter of failed policies.

I still think you should move to the north or south pole. VA gave you such a cold shoulder, you may find it warm there.
