Rep. Moran confirms it

A few days ago, teacherken alerted us to a Kos diary reporting on Rep. Jim Moran's statement that Bush knew about Jimmy Webb's close encounter in Iraq:
Not only did Bush know about it, he was specifically briefed on the incident before meeting with Webb, and was cautioned to be extra sensitive in speaking with Webb about his son.
Well, the Center for American Progress blog followed up with the congressman - "ThinkProgress yesterday spoke with MoranGÇÖs office and confirmed the congressmanGÇÖs statement."

Ive said it before, and Ill say it again.......

George Bush will  drag down his party to whig status.
I wish he had 4 more years to drag it down to Nazilike 1946 numbers, but then gas would be 14$ a gallon, and 35% of Americans would be locked up in a gulag.

Does this really surprise anyone (Terry85 - 12/5/2006 10:50:01 PM)
I just blogged about this, and now that I think about it, I bet Bush felt COMPELLED to approach Webb even more so once he was warned to stay away.

teacherken's diary (Kathy Gerber - 12/5/2006 11:21:16 PM)
He was talking about a diary by hcc in VA, the one who misspelled phriendlyjaime.  hcc promised to follow-up and he did just that posting yesterday.  I figured everyone had read it since teacherken's diary was so quiet. Here's the link.

In addition, the press secretary spoke to Senator-elect Webb's staff to see their view.  Here's the deal:  they would greatly prefer that we do NOT make a big incident about this.  He would prefer, at this point, to "move on" past this White House incident, and not extend the discussion.

Webb and Bush (seamusotoole - 12/5/2006 11:52:30 PM)
If Webb's staff has asked that this be dropped I think we should really respect their wishes.  For Bush this could be another ploy of his to take the focus off of the disaster in Iraq.  I frankly also don't want Webb's son put in anymore danger than he's already in.  I agree with everyone's view on this.  I think he's trying to discredit Webb before he ever is inaugurated.  Bush ought to be threatened out of his mind don't you think.  Just my feelings on this.  The house of cards is collapsing so let's let it happen.  Did anyone see Bush, Sr. tonight?  Sounds like he's falling apart and I don't think it's just over Jeb.

Didn't see it. Was it on the news? (Catzmaw - 12/6/2006 1:36:20 AM)

RE: Jeb (JPTERP - 12/6/2006 2:34:03 AM)
My read was "here's a father who realizes that his favorite, Jeb, the good one, the thoughtful one, the one who should have been president, will never stand a chance at becoming president, because his brother with the overly romanticized view of being a 'war president' screwed things up royally for everyone."

Bush Sr. Was Very Telling (mmc0412 - 12/6/2006 10:15:53 AM)
It did seem odd to me that Daddy Bush broke down crying over Jeb's 1994 loss when he turned around and won it later.  His crying definitely had more to do with how George Jr. has screwed everything up.

I agree. Isn't there any other news? (thegools - 12/7/2006 12:09:38 AM)
I am bored a thousand times over about these few phrases that passed between two men three weeks ago.

Let it go please.  I it helps .....Bush is an ass. Webb is great.  OK let's move on.

An interesting perspective: (mkfox - 12/6/2006 5:39:43 AM)
Senator-elect's tiff with Bush may have been foreshadowed in book
By Phil Reisman (Columnist)
New York Journal

... But the real story behind the White House encounter, though, is that Webb is a living nightmare to Bush. The writer-soldier-statesman is one American hero that the Bush operatives couldn't "swift boat" with lies, half-lies and innuendoes. If they had tried to smear his record of service, he'd have hit back and knocked them on their butts. ...

MOUNTAIN VIEWS: PRISSY PANTYWAIST GEORGE WILL POUTS OVER WAR HERO'S OFF-THE-CUFF REMARKS
By John Hanchette

"... After all of our dealings, I came away thinking he is probably one of the most articulate, forthright, clear-thinking, down-to-earth, trustworthy, honest, courageous, intellectually gifted public figures I've met during 22 years in Washington. Webb -- a celebrated boxer in his younger years -- can be inclined to confrontation. He can get in your face. But it's always for a reason. He doesn't look for trouble. But when trouble comes, he responds directly. He doesn't start arguments. He ends them. ...

Unintended consequence (Silver Fox - 12/6/2006 9:22:28 AM)
Once again Webb shows class.  His desire is to let this incident go and move on, but the right wing yelling machine will show neither class nor good sense.  George  Will and Bill O'Reilly shrilly ramp up the commentary, crying foul, foul, foul.  But who's foul, sirs?  Cheyney and his potty-mouth?  I predict that if the right wing apologists for Bush continue to flail about, it will only, once again,  emphasize Shrub's inadequacies and general cluelessness.  That's not what they are aiming for but that's what they will inexorably get because let's face it, Shrub has a long documented history of verbal ineptitude and this is just the latest in a litany of "things better left unsaid" such as "Heckuva job, Brownie," and "Mission Accomplished" to name just two prominent examples.  If Will and his ilk continue to give this story legs, soon "That's not what I said" is going to move into the lexicon of "shrub-speak" along with the other examples that make me sigh and blush and cringe whenever  I know our current president is going to be appearing without his rigid script.  Be smart, George and Bill and all the others who are trying to spin this latest Bush gaffe.  Let it go.  NOW, before you make matters even worse.  Trust me.  There'll be another "incident" coming along soon that you can get outraged about.  Given Bush's history, you can be sure of it.
