With each election cycle, the internet plays a larger role in political campaigns. Most candidates now depend on the effective use of online tools for fundraising, communications, and organizing volunteers. Each election also provides an opportunity to test new online technologies and experiment with innovative techniques and strategies.

Please join the New Organizing Institute and the Center for American Progress Action Fund for a discussion of Online Strategies in the 2006 Election. Learn what worked, what didn't, what to look for in the future, and how lessons from political campaigns can be applied to issue advocacy and non-profit communications.

I will be at work (pitin - 11/29/2006 1:29:22 PM)
but I strongly recommend this to anyone who has a chance to swing by, you will learn a lot.

Anyone from Hampton Roads going? (elevandoski - 11/29/2006 5:09:29 PM)
I would SOOOO like to attend this event.  I can get the day off from work and drive myself to it.  But it would be so much more fun to have somebody ride with me.  Anybody interested??? That's an offer to anyone along the way (i.e., Richmond, Fredericksburg).

Anyone can also try to talk me out of it... (elevandoski - 11/29/2006 5:11:13 PM)
Then again, this event is only 1.5 hours long.  Is it worth driving 7 hours RT for?

Fundraiser for Paula Miller (pitin - 11/29/2006 1:31:17 PM)
From Vivian Paige

On Saturday, December 9, join Delegate Paula Miller (D-87th) with special guest Governor Tim Kaine for a reception. The event, hosted by Sheriff and Mrs. Bob McCabe, will be held from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at 9552 25th Bay Street in the East Beach section of Norfolk. Tickets are $250, $500 and $1,000.

Not yet declared is Republican Henry C. “Hank” Giffin, III, a retired Vice Admiral, who is said to be running against Miller for this seat with the support of councilman Randy Wright. Wright previously supported Miller. The 87th, where I live, was formerly represented by Thelma Drake. Although both Webb (52.9%) and Kaine (55.2%) both won this district, I understand that the Republicans really want this seat back in their column. Miller faces her third test in as many elections, having twice defeated Michael Ball.

RSVP by December 1 to:
Friends of Paula Miller
PO Box 8757
Norfolk VA 23503

Even if you cannot make the event or cannot afford the $250, I’m sure that Delegate Miller will be grateful for any contribution you can make.

Energy Independence, Climate Change and Virginia's Future (Todd Smyth - 11/29/2006 2:44:36 PM)
Sponsored by the Virginia Chapter of Progressive Democrats of America.

WHO: Al Weed - Chairman, Public Policy Virginia
WHEN: Saturday, December 9th, 3 – 6 p.m.
WHERE: Anthony's Restaurant - 309 W. Broad St., Falls Church, VA

Al Weed will discuss how Virginia can advance energy independence, create jobs, reinvigorate depressed rural economies, and address global climate change by replacing the dying tobacco industry with a biofuels industry based on switchgrass and ethanol.  Home grown fuel keeps money in our own economy, means less foreign debt, less political and economic dependence on foreign oil, and less global warming.

Al Weed's Background:

Al Weed served as an Army Special Forces, Green Beret Medical Sergeant in the Vietnam War and continued to serve for forty-two years, rising to the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

Al and his wife, Emily started Mountain Cove Vineyards, the oldest, continuously-running farm winery in Virginia.  Al co-founded the Virginia Wineries Association, which helped launch over 100 farm vineyards into a $100 million dollar industry and established international respect for Virginia wine.  Al Weed recently ran for the 2006 US Congress in the Virginia 5th Congressional District and is currently a trustee with the Virginia Land Conservation Fund and Chairman of Public Policy Virginia.

Sponsored by the Virginia Chapter of Progressive Democrats of America.

Is the Central Committee Meeting (totallynext - 11/29/2006 3:46:07 PM)
I am a little confused is the Central Committee Meeting open to VA Dems?

I don't know for sure. (Rob - 11/29/2006 3:47:16 PM)
I would guess so given how many people invited us bloggers to it in the DPVa threads.

Yes it is (Mark - 11/29/2006 3:58:22 PM)
Seating for the Democratic faithful is provided along with the area for the Central Committee to sit.

Are you going, Mark? (Rob - 11/29/2006 4:35:08 PM)
If so, I'd love to see a diary (or two) reporting on the meeting.

I went (Mark - 11/29/2006 4:40:27 PM)
even when I wasn't a member.

Sure. I'll provide an account of the meeting, probably with self-hosted photographs.

Hey Mark! :) n/t (phriendlyjaime - 11/29/2006 4:48:17 PM)
