Another Home Run for Webb! (cycle12 - 11/19/2006 11:16:28 PM)
Thanks very much, Rob and relawson, for posting these video links to this morning's MSNBC telecast of Meet the Press featuring Senators-elect Jim Webb and Jon Tester.
In my opinion, Jim Webb has hit another home run, and he's not even in office yet!
What will Jim Webb do (WWJWD) next?
Please stay tuned . . .
Thanks again!
Steve
WWJD (mkfox - 11/20/2006 4:57:54 AM)
for me always meant "What Would Jefferson Do?" but "What Would Jim Do?" works pretty well too!
here they come (TurnVirginiaBlue - 11/20/2006 3:53:40 AM)
My only problem is I wish they weren't Freshman and more senior. I don't like this "seniority" thing in congress because we're trying to change direction.
I fear for Tester (a real person who isn't a millionaire just got elected to the Senate!), and I think it's uncool he didn't get a seat on the appropriations committee...or some Freshman Senator didn't get on there...
come on, how hard is it to say "earmark" which is my fear why they didn't get on frankly.
Webb comes across as an elder statesman to me frankly and I sure how the Democrats overall get a clue and let these guys make a difference and don't use Senate "pecking order" to keep the same ole, same ole...that's most assuredly what America just voted against.
Agreed, TVB (cycle12 - 11/20/2006 6:45:02 AM)
Jim's very detailed and learned on-air responses and his overall control of the subject matter made him appear to be a seasoned politician, which he is not. He is, however, an "instant statesman", and isn't that one of the best possible reasons which can be put forth to explain why he won this race?
I have no doubt that those with "seniority" will quickly develop much respect for the "junior" U. S Senator from Virginia. It would be mature and wise for them to do so.
Thanks!
Steve
"Seniority" system unfair to voters (relawson - 11/20/2006 10:42:11 AM)
I agree with you on the seniority system being unfair. It essentially says that one state's votes are more valuable than another. It also fosters the current system where incumbents never seem to lose (well, with some exceptions ;-)
That's not right - especially when they have already tinkered with the districting to fix the vote. Our politicians have no reason to represent the voters when they are in a "safe" district just because the other candidate will never win anyways.
Hell, Foley's replacement still got 48% of the vote and for him to get that, people had to knowingly vote for a guy who goes after underage boys in the page system.
It just goes to show that politicians are fixing the system. It may be "safe" for them but it certainly isn't "safe" for the voters.
Evo (seveneasypeaces - 11/20/2006 11:43:34 AM)
I think it is about evolution. They may pretend it is about senority. Just watch them when Obama speaks. I'm sure their eyes are dilating (interest, taking more in). The same thing will happen when Jim speaks. Too many in the congress think they are great. Their heads turn when faced with actual greatness.
Jim's Agenda (Teddy - 11/20/2006 10:43:05 AM)
was laid out pretty specifically. It would do RaisingKaine proud to begin discussing and blogging along the lines of the Webb agenda, since he has articulated it so well. And wasn't it interesting (I watched all 3 of the clips) to see the commonality of viewpoint between Tester and Webb... and, I suspect, among the other so-called new Democrats, no matter what part of the country they hail from.
