A little quiz

Quick, without looking anywhere else, match the party with the congressional leadership outcome results:

(A) An evenly divided 51% - 49%

(B) A landslide of 63% - 37%

Ok, times up!  Answer in extended entry...

(A) - Trent Lott beat Lamar Alexander for the No. 2 minority leadership position in the Senate by one vote.

(B) - Steny Hoyer beat John Murtha for the No. 2 majority leadership position in the House in a 63 vote landslide.

So, take a wild guess at which party is being depicted as "divided" in the press?  That's a rhetorical question.

Damn that's a good point.... (bladerunner - 11/16/2006 3:18:31 PM)
You know it's coming from Faux News. We've just got to go on, and realize that the GOP is more interested in cutting us down then making America advance.

Lamar/Trent (d'moore - 11/16/2006 3:44:26 PM)
Lets see which one would be the Democratic preference: Trent, totally discredited from his past performance as leader of the Senate--Lamar totally discredited from his run for President. Wow that is a sad choice.

I'm sorry Murtha had to bring attention to himself with the redux of Abscom. I didn't know he was involved in that. We don't expect perfection but coming on the heels of Pelosi's declaration to clean the swamp, the timing was awfully bad.  Someitmes I wonder at the nerve our elected representatives have. I  think Murtha was really tone deaf on that one.

I'm not going to bust on Murtha, but... (relawson - 11/16/2006 10:01:20 PM)
I think Democrats made a good choice.  I don't have enough information to decide if Murtha is (or was) unethical or not.  But I have enough information to be concerned.

Given that ethics reform is one of my top hopes for the new Congress, I think it is important that we not have anyone in that leadership role who would even be percieved as unethical.  You need someone beyond reproach.

So far, I am happy with the decisions Dems have made since gaining the majority.  I hope the trend continues.

Murtha needs to be open about what happened so we can either clear his name, or have some sort of closure on the issue.

Great little piece (A Siegel - 11/16/2006 11:03:11 PM)
That works as a LTE to me ... have you sent it out to lots of papers?

I haven't ... (Rob - 11/16/2006 11:29:18 PM)
feel free to steal the idea!
