Sen. Reid has announced the committee assignments for the new Democratic Senate. Jim Webb (D-VA) was said to be "asking for a seat on armed services or foreign relations."
Also, his spokesman made clear that he cared about veterans and economic issues:
Another incoming senator who is not tipping his hand on specific committee choices is Virginian Jim Webb (D), whose legislative agenda is topped by a minimum-wage increase and a new veteransGÇÖ benefits bill, according to spokeswoman Kristian Denny Todd, who offered a hint of WebbGÇÖs hopes: GÇ£His expertise and experience lies with examining our countryGÇÖs defense priorities,GÇ¥ she said via e-mail.
Looks like he's getting the spots he wants - Sen-Elect Webb will be on the Armed Services, Foreign Relations, Veterans, and Joint Economic Committees.

Virginia's winning streak keeps getting better! This positions Jim Webb as a significant player for both national and state politics for years to come. It will be intersting to see how this all plays out.
Webb is listed as a Republican (!) (scarlatagal - 11/14/2006 7:25:05 PM)

Scoop Jackson (DanG - 11/15/2006 12:57:39 AM)
The guy is our new Scoop Jackson. Democrats will turn to Webb when they need anything with Veterans Affairs or Foreign Policy. Both Republicans and Dems will want him to co-sponser all sorts of defense bills. I bet Webb becomes one of the Senate Superstars in the next six years.
