The 6th CD had two independent candidates challenging Bob Goodlatte, and this October 26 piece in the Roanoke Times discusses that race.

Thanks to two engaging opponents -- independent candidates Andre Peery and Barbara Jean Pryor -- Goodlatte should return to Washington, D.C., knowing that good, capable people stand ready to replace him.

Peery and Pryor delivered Goodlatte's first challenge in many years. The race isn't competitive, given the benefits of incumbency enjoyed by Goodlatte and the poorly financed campaigns of his challengers. However, both independents are to be congratulated for entering the race; they brought fresh and worthy ideas to the electorate.

Pryor and Peery each garnered roughly 12% of the vote in the 6th.

Thanks for stepping up to the plate and reminding us all of the value of participation.

Thank You (Gordie - 11/9/2006 8:11:28 AM)
Yes I want to especially thank any one who steps up to the plate and try's to get elected. They are the couragous ones in this country.
What saddens me is people want to live by the status quo and continue to live in a poverty state of affairs. If people in this country wish to continue living they way they are then they should vote for the incumbant. I all reality these 2 great challengers should have gotten 33% of the vote, after all most polls show districts are about 33 to 37 % Democratic. When Democrats let a great candidate with the status of Pryor fade from their mist, then I guess they deserve the status quo.
Just like the southside of the fifth district. The highest unemployment in the state and they stick with the status quo. So I would think that they derserve what they get. A do nothing, no ideal of how to solve problems congressman.

The Senate race in this state really shows how part of the population want to stick to the status quo and others want a change. Just maybe state wide Virginia has crossed the barrier of status quo and have begun to care about leadership.

May no one get the wrong impresstion. Allen was a good candidate who made too many mistakes, it is just that Webb will be a far better leader. We in Virginia need the best of the best, not the status quo.
