I was orignally motivated in this election because I wanted Allen to lose. After getting into this site, I was motivated because I believed in Jim Webb and really wanted him to win.
This site motivated me to: send letters to the editor (two were published); do phone-from-home; do lit-drops; for the first time in my life donate to a campaign; to work at my precint from 9:00am-7:00pm --in the rain, no less; and to stay up until 3:00am to watch results.
The people on this site do so much. Thank you all. We win. We ALL win.
Lowell's a superhero. Glad he's on our side!
Lowell Feld, Incredible Blogger
Both Lowell and Josh should stand up and take a bow.
Without the tireless and thankless efforts of these two men, who coaxed Jim from a life of comfort as a successful novelist, George Allen would not only be back in the Senate, but also would be running for President.
Both Lowell and Josh worked insane hours and sacrificied almost a year to make Jim's victory possible. And through RaisingKaine their advocacy for Jim and HIS VISION helped create a groundswell of support for Webb among Democrats in Virginia who were looking for a new direction.
Virginia and America are both deeply in their debt.
This site was a huge factor. It became really important to me that this campaign succeed, and I felt for the first time that the power was in my hands and the hands of hundreds of volunteers to make a change in Washington, to send someone there who actually said what he believed and believed what he said, and did it intelligently and after much thought.
It was only through the efforts of Lowell and Josh and all the loyal stalwarts contributing to this site like Kathy Gerber, teacherken, phriendlyjaime, Barbara, DanG, drmontoya, and countless others that I felt I was part of something much larger than myself and was motivated to get really involved. I wrote dozens of LTEs (some got published), comments to news stories, postings on conservative blogs, etc. I phonebanked, bought a tee shirt, posted a huge sign on my office window, ran around handing out literature, called in to talk shows, recruited my kids, my friends, and my colleagues. Eventually I actually agreed to drive down to Richmond as a poll monitor -- trust me, Catzmaw doesn't leave her little cave in Arlington without good cause.
Thanks to you guys for getting to me to be one of the tiny cogs in the machine that sent Senator Webb to Washington. I like to think that it's through these efforts that some day young Americans will not have to die for an ill-considered war, and that we have put in place a man who will act as the Senate's conscience and the common person's voice. My only regret is that I did not get involved earlier, and my hope is that I will again have the privilege of working on a Webb campaign. This election has given me hope that the common person's voice will be heard. It has given me hope that someone will speak up for our civil liberties, our
Constitution, and for fairness in the political and economic arenas.
