Thank you LCpl. Webb -- I know your father is extremely proud of you.

I had the pleasure of meeting him the weekend he was to take you to be sent to Iraq.  Your father is a great and honorable man and I am HONORED to be a proud supporter of Senator Webb's and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service to our country.

My best wishes to you and please come home safely and SOON!!!

Sincerely,

Jennifer

You got it. (catbird - 11/6/2006 9:55:04 PM)
Dear Jimmy,  Your dad has my vote, my enthusiasm,  the most energy I've ever given a candidate and my deepest gratitude.

Stay safe and thank you.

For Sure!!! (Barbara - 11/6/2006 10:48:33 PM)
Count on me, my husband, and my two children.  Your Dad was amazing tonight.  He is an incredible guy.  Stay safe.  We hope you come home soon.

That I will (libra - 11/7/2006 12:12:10 AM)
if for no other reason than that we *need* him in the Senate; hopefully, he'll help us out of the damn Iraq quagmire, so that you and others can come back home soon, safe and sound.

PS. Does anyone here (on RK) know what the story is with the WashPo's article yesterday, where they wrote that Jim Webb "named his son after Robert E.Lee"? How does Robert become a Jimmy?

Not that R.E. Lee would be a bad person to name a son after... :)

I've visited the R.E. Lee chapel at W&Lee U countless times (both by myself and with visitors from abroad) and always read and re-read the quotes, because they struck me -- from the very beginning -- as considered and informed thoughts of a person of honor, whose heart had been torn between the various duties and responsibilities facing him. A person who'd always look at both sides of any question before making a decision, but whose decision would put the "common good" before that of his own. Someone who, despite being a general ("in the business of war", so to speak) was also a person who valued peace, highly. And who was also extremely pragmatic, whose life seemed to say: if your house burns down, save what you can from it and rebuild. Stronger.

Come to think of it... He and Webb share a lot of characteristics, no?

Jimmy, We have done what we can even those of us 3,000 miles away. (walkabout - 11/7/2006 2:02:05 AM)
You and your buddies are in our prayers and have our heartfelt thanks.

How did we do? (b crowe - 11/9/2006 2:33:08 PM)
The most important message we received from the campaign was the news that you were deploying to Iraq.  For us, it symbolized in a powerful way why we want Jim Webb to be our US Senator.  Those of us working for change in this campaign feel indebted to you and your fellow soldiers who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  We felt we could support you in a most meaningful way by increasing our efforts in support of your father and all those candidates who recognize the need to act to preserve our principles of self government.

We are grateful for your father’s courage to have taken on this great, almost insurmountable, challenge. Rest assured that with your father’s victory we have just begun to fight.
