Meanwhile, Frank Wolf stood next to Tom Davis, both looking miserable, with Frank Wolf occasionally checking his watch as if to say, "why the hell do I have to be doing this DEMOCRACY thing...ugh?" In contrast, Andy Hurst was his usual bubbly self, greeting anyone and everyone with a big smile on his face. The contrast between the unsmiling, unhappy, scared Republicans and the ebullient Democrats couldn't have been greater.
There will be video later, but for now, here are some photos (after the "flip").

Super event this a.m..... a success!!!! Congrats one and all.
More to come on election day.
Wolf and Davis looked tired and distracted.
Remember to vote and look to the future! Change is a coming and it is turning Virginia Blue.
kc.
Please check out the latest news about Tom "pay me and I won't hold a hearing on you" Davis.
Random Observations:
I got there a little late and missed Allen. As stated above, it didn't sound like he was around for long. I suppose he needed to show up or else his followers wouldn't have even bothered. Then he left them to do his work for him. Yeah, that sounds like the Allen we know.
A lady was saying (loudly) as she ran the Allen gauntlet "Webb all the way".
A guy passed an Allen supporter and said something nasty - mostly directed at the supporter. I gave a little woohoo cause he didn't like Allen, but most of the supporters on both sides were well behaved and didn't deserve personal attacks.
There was one obnoxious Davis supporter handing out lit that the police had to chase back. He was in people's faces and wouldn't get out of the path of traffic.
Speaking of police, Tom Davis himself got in the way of pedestrian traffic and had to be told to move back by the police. Maybe Davis' new approach is "I'll get out of your way if you vote for me".
Hurst was doing great. He kept finding the quiet spots to greet people before they ran into the mess. He was doing great (as always) and many people were saying he already had their vote.
By 8am, at the north entrance, there were about 30 supporters for each side. It looked like the Davis/Wolf crowd was a little bigger, but I recounted a few times. Guess the Webb/Hurst/Vote No team was more spread out - giving the appearance of a slightly smaller group.
Anyone agree with me?
Yeah, that's really something to be proud of.
"Voting for a Republican means you are voting FOR something and not against."
What a stupid and lame last minute talking point! Voting FOR any of the Republicans at this point IS voting against something-BAD LEADERSHIP!
No doubt that accounts for the cheerful expression on their faces :)
I stayed at Vienna until 10:15 this morning. There are two entrances and apparently allen had his press conference on the opposite one from where I was. He saw too many Webb people and didn't approach. I heard that the chanting was disrupting to his press conference.Cindy Sheehan was there with Code Pink.
While standing near some Allen people I got into it a couple times. One man said 'if there was just one thing he had done' and walked away. I followed him and said do you mean Jim Webb. He said yes so I told him about the opening of more jobs for women. And about him realizing reagan/bush were not about defense because he couldn't get his navy, but were instead about world domination. Then the guy said he makes his wife work. I said she is her own person and chooses her own life. A couple more silly things were said.
One guy went by thanking us and he generally pointed at them and said to them in a louder voice "You all should know better." It was nice.
Another guy came by and thanked us and said 'you all are dressed like regular people, NOT in cashmere as he pointed at them and they heard him. He was right, they had on expensive coats and expensive shoes. Meanwhile I had to listen to one of the women in a whiney voice tell everybody good morning. After these two guys went by her voice lowered quite a bit. I was sure glad. Got tired of that phony loud intrusion.
One woman started in with the Jeffersonian principles. I turned around and said Jefferson was against corporate power. This guy is NOT about Jefferson. She didn't say it again.
I think we got some good response. Of course there's lots of asleep people but of the awake ones I think we had the advantage.
I plan to got out early tomorrow and stand on a crowded street with my Webb sign before going to do my shifts at the polls. I think people like to see real people standing up.
Did anyone else hear of the Cindy Sheahan (spelling) incident of duck and cover?
When Allen saw all the folk at Vienna, he left like toots-sweet. He evidently went to another metro and ran smack dab into Cindy. Well he did not want that photo-op and ran off to another metro, or went home, have not heard.
Getting only bits and pieces........
BUT............Allen on the run,
More at 11.
I think it says more about your GOP team - the fact that you're the only one coming here to support them, no matter how many logins you create.
Oh, and a little tip for tomorrow: you can only vote once. If you try this multiple identity thing at the polls you'll be up shit's creek.
i was not at the metro event this morning. but two things struck me - one, the amount of webb signs available from the pictures. two, the large amount of davis signs behind george allen when he was speaking. seriously - where were the allen supporters on that one?
As for Davis, I suspect you're right. Hurst did a great job campaigning with the resources he had, but Davis just had too much of a head start. I'm still predicting a Davis win, but much less than he should win by. And look for the 11th to pick a Democrat in 2008 when Davis moves on - and especially if Hurst gives it another try.
