Update from SW Virginia: My husband and I just got in for a break from canvassing in Blacksburg.  And I must say that the response was the strongest for the Democratic ticket I have ever experienced.  There were only two households which were not supportive. Even for a largely democratic precinct, this is unprecedented.

We could feel the momentum.  Onward!

Webb in not two-faced at Abingdon H.S. (IechydDa - 11/5/2006 12:09:38 AM)
I just came from a GOTV rally featuring Jim Webb, Rep. Rick Boucher, Governor Tim Kaine, and former Governor Mark Warner. The enthusiasm was palpable and the Abingdon High School Cafeteria was filled to capacity. There was more food for the potluck and many more younger faces than I have ever seen at such an event. We have a real good candidate in Jim Webb. He doesn't change his tune when comes to SWVA.

Webb stood up and opposed the so-called Marriage Amendment, Question #1, despite being in a place where even among stong Democrats, many don't agree. Yet he received big applause after the comment. He also voiced his opposition to the war and the how it is being conducted. Congressman Boucher has yet to speak in opposition to the war, so Webb's opposition is very refreshing and was also greeted by strong applause.

Today, Mason-Dixon has Allen barely leading Webb in SWVA. Neglecting the rural vote is perilous for Democrats. Warner and Kaine know that and after they finish their swing through SWVA tomorrow, Webb may be in the lead here.
