United Steelworkers Local 8888 take back streets from George Allen

Today, Friday November 3rd George Allen tried to appear at the shipyard gates at northrop Grumman Newport News. What hw did not know was that the Women of Steel along with many union members had already scheduled a rally with Lynda robb, Sen. Mamie Locke, Rep. Mamye Bacote, and Rep. Jeion Ward. Imagine the look when George Allen turned the corner and saw that there were 30-40 Webb signs. Somebody had made a big mistake on the part of the Allen campaign. The Republican Chairmen for Hampton and Newport News were extremely shocked along with Allen.
George did get out, looked over the situation and quickly stepped into a nearby restaurant. There would be no shaking hands at our gates; the only shaking hands were done by the Women of Steel and the Local 8888 union members. George was followed and talked to as only true union members can do, and finally realized this was one campaign stop that had broken down and was a disaster. As we told his staff, where was he in 1999 when we had to strike. George didn't greet the workers then, so no reason to greet them today. It was a great scene in Newport News.

As I head out the door to distribute Webb and Weed literature this is a good laugh to carry me forward. As an ex-union worker I would have loved to have seen the faces of the Allen camp. After all a picture is worth a thousand words.
got a nice offshore outsourcing video (TurnVirginiaBlue - 11/4/2006 4:25:54 PM)
that goes along with this well.
Manufacturing has been decimated by offshore outsourcing.
This is really good, describes what is happening to good hard working people locally.

Real people...real issues. Something Mr. Allen knows nothing about. Please keep it going. We're almost there.
