Meet Specialist James Wilson (Video)

There are plenty of reasons why we need to get rid of the crowd in Washington, DC. This one is the best. Specialist James Wilson and his wife are from Louisiana originally, and lost most of what they owned in Hurrican Katrina.

At the same time, James was fighting to get appropriate treatment for his TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). He was discharged from the Army with a 10% disability, which means he gets next to nothing and no medical care.

Specialist Wilson rightly calls out George Allen, Virgil Goode and Bush for the place he finds himself in.

As he says, "The thing that hurts the most is my pride."

This should be required watching for everyone.

This is too important to ignore.

We need to take care of our troops. What would we do without them?

$90,000 in medical bills (Mark - 11/1/2006 9:59:28 PM)
That's what people want from Specialist Wilson now.

Is there a bigger injustice in our country than the way we treat the troops?

First, there's a diary, VA-Sen: Veterans Speak Out for Webb in Shenandoah Valley, on the rec list at dk right now.

Can you xpost this over there?

I will at least reference it in a comment.

I want to make a comment (Gordie - 11/2/2006 12:02:35 AM)
Meeting James Wilson at the D-Day Memorial in Bedford was a sad experience for me. Hearing his story made my anger boil. When he told the stories about how  or should I say nothing that Virgil Goode would do for him was pathetic.

Tonight I was at Hampden-Sydney College for the debate between Weed, Goode and Oddo and again tonight Oddo told Virgil he should step down for the job he did or should it be for the job he has not done. I wondered what Oddo would have told Goode if he ever hear James Wilson story. Probably leave the country.

When Al Weed talks about the veterans, people can feel it in the air that Al wants to be elected so he can help all veterans in everything way that is possible to give to these great heros their due.

Changing the subject a little, today I learned about how Governor Kaine helped Al Weeds campaign on Oct. 26, that Al is going full force with ads of all kinds. Look and listen and hear what the next 5th District Congress man has to say. Just learned tonight that there will be another TV debate on cable TV in the Martinsville area on Nov. 6 ?. Keep up the hard work Al and your dream of helping all veterans will become reality. Hang in their Jim, help is on the way.

Wish I could have gone.. (Kathy Gerber - 11/2/2006 1:11:19 AM)
I think this video is particularly painful for young people.  It's not true for everyone, but when I was younger I avoided human suffering in any form whenever possible.  After sometime it's bound to strike close, and we learn how to handle it more effectively and sort through the cause and effect of it all.

Spec. Wilson's post-war suffering was not necessary.  That's for sure.

Thanks Kathy for (Mark - 11/2/2006 1:27:56 AM)
your great comments and your insight. This makes me very mad every time I watch it. I will not rest easy until something is done about our troops.

I am heartbroken.

Unconscionable Treatment! (Catzmaw - 11/2/2006 12:12:38 AM)
The Bush Administration has completely failed this young man and his like.  I'm outraged at the casual treatment of his obviously severe injury.  Makes me mad, too, that Allen stole Durbin's 19 million dollar brain injury bill and presented it as his own in September.  He was aware of this issue and only acted to make himself look better politically by proposing a bill, any bill.  I guess it's easier to fly flags and sport yellow magnets than it is to worry about the welfare of the people we're making fight this war.

Thanks, catzmaw (Kathy Gerber - 11/2/2006 1:12:01 AM)
For reminding us of that.
