I really like this (TurnVirginiaBlue - 10/31/2006 3:43:17 PM)
Best sentence
I'd be honored to have your vote
next best: They're not fighting for you, I will
That's Webb in a nutshell: The desire and the ability to serve the nation and Virginia.
Okay, now we're talking (Catzmaw - 10/31/2006 3:43:54 PM)
This is a good straight forward commercial aimed at those who are fed up with the status quo, and for that purpose is pretty good. Mr. Webb looks good and engages the viewer much better than he has in the past. However, and this isn't meant as criticism but as a helpful hint, we still need to see an ad which specifically addresses the concerns of some of the women who've been affected by Allen's negative ads -- we need to see something talking about the specifics of Allen's record and setting forth the specifics of what Webb will do for women.
I agree (TurnVirginiaBlue - 10/31/2006 3:47:49 PM)
also blogging major diaries and articles on Webb with women.
Once you get into policy positions and what Webb has done, it's a no contest that Webb is the candidate for women generally, but that negative blast really does hurt without the deep background check.
This ad, as the overall "closer" ad I think is really dead on though.
i agree (pvogel - 10/31/2006 3:44:02 PM)
i was honered to have voted for webb!!!!!
Love it, love it, love it! (LAS - 10/31/2006 4:08:05 PM)
Seriously, this is GOOD.
It's the contrast that makes the difference (Bobby - 10/31/2006 4:23:59 PM)
The best part about this ad is that it is positive. Especially in this race, negativity has been a theme. The contrast between the Webb and Allen messages will help Webb as it helped Kaine.
Obviously saved the best for last (DanG - 10/31/2006 4:26:39 PM)
The best ad yet from the Webb Campaign. Run this and the Warner ad, combined with the DSCC ads, and we'll be in good shape.
This Woman Likes This Ad! (Elaine in Roanoke - 10/31/2006 4:49:20 PM)
This ad is the perfect one for a challenger who has pulled even in the polls (and is polling ahead in four polls).
The comments above about addressing so-called "women's concerns" raised by the Allen campaign are just wrong. The Allen people would love to have that gift this close to November 7.
Those concerns have already been addressed by the Webb campaign. We are in the closing days of this campaign, and a positive ad showing Jim Webb at his best is excellent!
Sorry, I understand your point (Catzmaw - 10/31/2006 5:13:33 PM)
but I keep on having to set women straight about Webb all the time, even in my own family. I think the women's vote was more poisoned by the hate campaign than we gave it credit for, and it couldn't hurt to aim something specifically at women.
I agree catz. n/t (Kathy Gerber - 10/31/2006 5:15:18 PM)
But. (Kathy Gerber - 10/31/2006 5:15:54 PM)
I love this ad here :) :)
Unfortunately You Are Right (norman swingvoter - 10/31/2006 8:48:56 PM)
This is a great ad. Unfortunately allen's lies have had some affect. I was talking in the gym yesterday with a trainer. She seemed to think that Webb was accused of writing porn novels. I tactifully set her straight. I have typed up a response below. Unless allen's people go to Amazon.com and lie, which is entirely possible, this is my response.
george allen admits that he has NOT read any of the books. These are NOT porn novels but award winning military novels. Several of these take place during the Vietnam war. Vietnam in the 60's was a culture that many modern women might consider demeaning. These books were written with the passages that allen quotes not because of a flaw in Jim Webb's character but because Webb needed to write in a way that was historically accurate. On Amazon.com, soldiers who were in Vietnam routinely say these books are the best written to give a person the true experience of what it was like to be there. Fields of Fire is so good that it is on the reading list of The US Marine Corp to help our troops prepare for today's wars. In my opinion for george allen to cherry pick passages from these great books and make these ridiculous charges, shows a complete loss of integrity in his campaign and is an insult to the voters of Virgina.
Women's concerns (Silver Fox - 10/31/2006 5:27:01 PM)
I just returned home from stuffing envelopes for a get out the vote effort and there was a message from my neighbor who generally votes Democratic, wanting information on Webb and specifically mentioning his attitude toward women. I will call her (her phone is busy) and make sure she has the straight information on this issue and any others she is concerned about, but I have to say, we obviously have to do a bit more work. Allen's smear is obviously stickier than I had thought and it would seem that we need a specific ad that addresses this issue in clear sharp terms to wipe away any lingering misconceptions. Jim Webb will work for issues women really care about. We just have to make sure they know it.
