Allen supporter and Bush speech writer goes postal in LTE

So, this guy actually wrote foriegn-policy speeches for the Bush White House?
These are the people I now hate--these people who seek to control our national security. The best of them are misinformed. The rest of them are liars.

So I intend to vote on Nov. 7. If I have to, I'll crawl over broken glass to do it. And this year I'm voting a straight Republican ticket right down to dog catcher, because I've had it. I'm fed up with the deranged, lying left. They've infected me. I'm now a hater, too.

That explains a lot, doesn't it?

(UPDATE: If you'd like to learn to write such emotional and riveting hate mail, maybe Paul could teach you sometime!)

(UPDATE: And what kind of a paper would actually publish such hate mail?  Why, a paper that endorses GFA because - and I'm not joking - "George Allen's warm body is needed to help Republicans maintain control of the Senate and install federal judges who will prevent and cure the disease of judicial activism that mocks elected government. If the GOP hangs onto the Senate on Nov. 7, it likely will be by a whisker. Friends of the Constitution can't afford to see Mr. Allen sheared off."  Vote Allen to keep the GOP majority - that's the argument of the Free Lance Star.  Impressive, isn't it?)

Note how the author transitions from soldiers fighting in battle to "these are the people I now hate" in the very next paragraph.

That obviously wasn't the letter writer's intent, but it was a strange transition.

Also, it's rare that stating ones credentials would immediately undermine ones credibility; however, that is the effect of "I wrote foreign-policy speeches for the Bush White House from 2003-2005".

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwww (phriendlyjaime - 10/31/2006 8:14:22 AM)
Broken glass and warm bodies?

What?

Ummmmmmm...who writes wierd shit again?  ;)

Yikes (KCinDC - 10/31/2006 1:11:05 AM)
Is the Free Lance-Star a real newspaper? Why would they publish a rant that should be confined to someone's blog?

I really can't believe that someone who writes like that could have a job as a presidential speechwriter. Maybe he's had a breakdown?

It's real (Rob - 10/31/2006 1:26:36 AM)
" The Free Lance-Star Publishing Co. is a family-owned multimedia company in Fredericksburg, Va. It includes The Free Lance-Star daily newspaper; three radio stations - WFLS-93.3, WYSK-99.3 and WWUZ-96.9; fredericksburg.com; and the Star Directory phone book. For 120 years, the company has developed a reputation for integrity, credibility and innovation in this region and throughout the media industry."

I'm sure you won't be surprised that this paper endorsed Allen.

Wow... (Jambon - 10/31/2006 1:27:21 AM)
that is truly frightening.

I'd like to think Mr. Burgess was under the influence of narcotics when he wrote that.  Disturbing to say the least...

RE: Damning with praise (JPTERP - 10/31/2006 1:48:08 AM)
In reference to the endorsement "George Allen's warm body" is quite a selling point!

"We're not backing George Allen because of his intellect, his character, or credentials, we are backing him because he has a quality possesed by 100% of mammals."

The other red flag is "judicial activism".  People who use this term in a strictly partisan sense, don't understand constitutional law, or for that matter, the Constitution.

God that's scary (TurnVirginiaBlue - 10/31/2006 2:46:15 AM)
He was a speech writer for the White house on foreign policy?

OMG!  More evidence on how truly incompetent this administration is!

Allen's warm body???? (libra - 10/31/2006 3:04:54 AM)
Cheese, Louise... Is he trying to convince *Susan* to vote for her hubby? Personally, I'd as soon see his body cold and rigid, in storage somwhere  :)

What upsets me more is my own dented pride... :) I thought my (written) English was pretty good for a foreigner but I obiously could never qualify as a speech-writer, even for the chimperor. After 2000, I became interested in politics. After 2004, I began to refer to myself as "rabid liberal"...

How could I??? How could I *possibly* have missed the elegance of the "livid left" and "rabid right" dichotomy??? It's as if my mind was trying to be bipartisan...

RE: You missed your window of opportunity (JPTERP - 10/31/2006 4:25:42 AM)
All White Houses are political, but very few place loyalty and families ties above core competence.  Burgess clearly has mastered the art of preaching to the converted, but he doesn't appear to be as skilled at persuading skeptical and critical audiences.  The latter is the skill that most White House staffs seem to value.  Not this one.

Hopefully, this will be the last administration to promote rank amateurs to the level of creating and selling its policy.

So what else is new? (Quizzical - 10/31/2006 8:49:26 AM)
We are supposed to believe that the author, who was a speech writer for the GW Bush White House, wasn't a hater before?  That he didn't hate Clinton, Gore, Kerry?  That he didn't vote a straight Republican ticket before?  Give me a break!

Yada-yada-yada (BlueDog - 10/31/2006 9:44:06 AM)
Again-- No-thing on the ISSUES?  Just gossip, gossip, gossip.  When will the A folks come out with something real voters, who are interested in what the fellow will do for Virginia-- when will he get to the ISSUES?  I certainly hope his economic and public administration skills are better than evidenced by how he has spent his campaign money!  All the man has seemed to do is waste millions to scream at his opponent.

Mr. Webb, on the other hand, has remained senatorial throughout and has stuck to his issues message.  That alone gives me plenty of reason to vote for Jim Webb.  But, I also know he has solid ideas for veterans, healthcare, the crisis in Iraq (foreign policy in general), regional transportation and ethics in government.  I have confidence that Jim Webb will be a voice for change in Washington.  I think he will help ensure Virginia remains a safe and prosperous place for families to live and work.  He will keep Virginia moving forward.

This voter thanks you for your willingness to again serve in government, Mr. Webb!

Don't forget (Newport News Dem - 10/31/2006 11:43:06 AM)
Democrats want the terrorists to win.

Maybe this slime ball is still writing for Frist and Bush.

And remember.... (scarlatagal - 10/31/2006 12:25:09 PM)
Even though he has publicly admitted there was no link between Saddam Hussein and terrorism, Bush is still trying to link the two together.  He will continue to do it for as long as he's got left in office in order to use it as a hammer against all opposition.  The term 'terrorist'--ambiguous at best--has somehow got to be defined for what it really is in the Republican political context--a catch phrase and justification for unconstitutional policies.
