I know this is how it works in baseball, but Lee Mazzilli didn't really deserve to be fired today. At the minimum, a few other underperformers in the Orioles' organization should have been axed first:
1) FORMERLY "Sluggin' Sammy" Sosa: batting average .235, just 38 RBI
2) Sidney "Shoulda Stayed in an Aruban Jail" Ponson: 6.12 ERA
3) Rafael "Steroids, what Steroids?" Palmeiro
4) Peter "Screw Both Orioles AND Nationals Fans Over and Over Again" Angelos
Unfortunately, it's extremely hard to get rid of megamillionaire washouts in baseball. It's also impossible to fire the owner, just like you can't fire the President of the United States for a disastrous war and an exploding budget deficit. Bummer on all counts.
