I took down my Webb sign for a good reason

Yep, my Webb yard sign is gone.  You see, I live on a rural dirt road with very little traffic in Fauquier County.  Everyone who was going to see it has seen it for over a month.

I got a call from a friend in suburban Prince William who has been unable to get a Webb sign for her yard (claims she has tried to contact the Prince William Democrats but hasn't gotten a response) and wondered if I had any spares.  Well, I didn't but I offered mine.  When I met up with her, two other people wanted signs.  It was decided that my sign would serve the cause best with one of the others on a heavily traveled road right in the heart of Manassas.  So I said goodbye to my underutilized Webb sign and sacrificed it for the cause!

Excellent, good post (Todd Smyth - 10/30/2006 10:29:56 AM)
This is the kind of stuff we need to communicate.

I used (chiefsjen - 10/30/2006 12:20:55 PM)
my yard sign in my car.

I had my webb and hurst signs up on the balconey of my apt porch for like a month until i rec'd a notice i couldn't have them up...

so i put the sign in my car window on the back passenger side.

i also was able to convince a fence-sitter at my work to vote for webb -- he said i convinced him and he will be voting for webb and telling his friends too.

i told him we needed every vote out there and to spread the word!

Rally signs converted to yard (kevinceckowski - 11/1/2006 9:40:39 AM)
signs worked. Jo came by and really wanted 4 yard signs. I said to her, sure, and realized I was down from 60 down to only 2, one for me and one for her. SOooooooooooo we found 4 rally signs in the garage, down from 30, and we pounded them on her and her neighbors property.  We can do it, we are dems. kc.

I just taped a big sign to my office window (Catzmaw - 10/30/2006 12:49:33 PM)
and a bumper sticker to my office door.  Anything to get people thinking.

here's two more ideas.... (Used2Bneutral - 10/30/2006 5:25:14 PM)
I've mentioned this before, but it is catching on.... My adult daughters started this at their townhouse development a couple of miles from me out here in Centreville.... they started by putting bumper stickers for Judy Feder and Jim Webb on the outside on all four sides of their trash can.... so by leaving it out a little early and taking it back in a little late... they get at least 4 out of 7 calendar days of high profile visiability right in the middle of their townhouse parking lot......

I have yard signs, but because of grass cutting they keep knocking them down on me.... I also am the "Lucky" neighbor who ended up with the electric transformer in my front yard.... do you realize how good those yard signs look taped to the transformer..... now I'm not going to push it and they will come down next Wednesday morning after the victory party on Tuesday night.... but I have had several more neighbors ask for signs for their yards.... I HAVE NEVER HAD THAT BEFORE in the 18 Years I have lived in this house !!! Almost all my neighbors are strong Republicans and they asked not just for Webb signs, but for Judy's signs too.... this is really looking up !!!

WEBB SIGN DOWN....... Well, I just pick it up again....... (BlueDog - 10/31/2006 2:41:14 PM)
I'm an appraiser so I am sent out, driving all over the place.  When I see a Webb sign down, I pull over and set it back up.  If it's been damaged beyond being able to set it back up I take it with me, find some way to repair the sign and then put it back to use.  At first I worried about getting out of my car on sometimes busy roads but now I think that as long as I am safe about what I'm doing it SENDS A GREAT MESSAGE:  Woman out fixing sign for Webb (I do it for Judy and some others too).

So, I don't hurry through the task at all, because I think when the traffic sees me out there walking around with a Webb for Senate sign, caring about where it's placed, picking up signs that have fallen, etc.- I think it sends a message that many of us are involved.  Many of us are out, and involved in the campaign on a daily basis, in their neighborhoods and shopping centers (signs are mostly in medians ourside these areas but still counts, I think)-- and we care enough to even focus on details.

I don't recommend this for everyone but I think it does help campaign visibility and works OK for me.  Also, it doesn't take much additional time.

2 more up at Chain Bridge (kevinceckowski - 11/1/2006 9:42:16 AM)
that were torn down or blown into the woods during the primary have been taped and resecured at Chain Bridge, here near Georgetown and N Arlington.  The mowers almost got one of them, but it appears good enough to use again.  Good work one and all.
