Halifax Cantaloupe Festival (follow-up)

While I was away in the land of bar exam review, Lowell wrote this about a shoving incident at the Halifax Cantaloupe Festival.  The Kilgore people denied the accusations.

Then comes this fine editorial in the Mecklenburg Sun from the alleged assailant?s cousin!

  Applicable portion excerpted below.

Turns out the only excitement generated by his appearance came when the Kilgore advance team mixed it up with workers with the Tim Kaine campaign, who were there to represent their man. According to my sources, upon arriving on the scene the Kilgore Youth tore down every Tim Kaine in sight, prompting the Kaine people to retaliate by following Kilgore around and waving a big Kaine sign in the background. (Makes for good TV). Just when it seemed like things couldn?t get any more childish, a Kilgore campaign elder took matters into his own hands by physically shoving not one but two Kaine volunteers, one of whom was a young woman in her 20s. For shame. Just who was this disgrace to Southern manhood, this woolly bully bungle boy from Company K? Why, none other than my first cousin not-far-enough-removed, Fifth District Republican Chairman Tucker Watkins. A new low, even for Cuz.

Interesting.  If Mr. Watkins and his supporters STILL want to deny this ever happened, they should take it up with his cousin.

It is way too fun to read what those of you who were no where near a Kaine or Kilgore sign at the Cantaloupe Festival--including the editorial writing "cuz"---have to say about such a non-incident---The real news of the day was that Kilgore was there, was incredibly well received and the Kaine folks no where to be seen after their childish behavior.  Yep, this blog entry from one of the Kaine proclaimed "Sticker chics" who was there, front and center at the gate and meeting and greeting the fine citizens in the festival with Kilgore!

Darn, you got me. Y (Jeremy - 4/4/2006 11:27:25 PM)
Darn, you got me.  You are correct, I had no idea he and his cousin were feuding.  There is pie on my face as I am sure that should be common knowledge to anyone in the state of Virginia.

Walt,
We keep "grasping for straws" and you keep coming back to read it.  If we ever quit "grasping" where would you put all of your comments?

Anyway, thanks for reading and commenting.  By the way, what do you mean by "normal Virginia?"

Do you have any idea (John Sloan - 4/4/2006 11:27:25 PM)
Do you have any idea how many "cousins" a person like Watkins has (a name that goes back in Halifax County, to at least the 1760's.) To refer to someone as "cousin" in "normal Virginia" is like refering to someone as "citizen" in Revolutionary France. Your point is without substance, still. Grasping for straws is all you folks will spend your time doing for the next three months.

just shows you have (alva - 4/4/2006 11:27:25 PM)
just shows you have no idea that Tucker and his cousin are blood enemies and this isn't the first, second, third or eleventh time Tucker has been ripped in that rag.
