BHC: "hold your nose, go with Allen" (Bubby - 10/27/2006 8:45:31 AM)
Our support for Allen is not without reservations. The senator’s mean-spirited remarks to a young Webb volunteer bore racist overtones. His flirtation with all things Confederate gives us pause.

So, character really doesn't matter.  Good to know, Bristol Herald Courier.

RE: Wow. (JPTERP - 10/27/2006 11:29:55 AM)
The Bristol editorial read like a compendium of the Allen campaign's talking points.

On economic issues--federal spending, the national debt, budget priorities--Allen's record stinks.  Allen's hands are also all over a disasterous foreign policy in Iraq, and his solution seems to be that tough rhetoric, and empty platitudes will win wars.

I find it interesting that they would place the greatest emphasis on Allen's record as a governor.  The truth is he was an absentee Senator for the second half of 2005 and the first half of 2006 and up to this point his record hasn't even been mediocre.

As far as Jim Webb being a "one-issue" candidate, I've heard that somewhere before.  I get the sense that this editorial decision was made without sitting down and talking to the candidates about issues and goals.

On a positive note: at least they provided reasons.  Not good reasons.  But they were reasons.

I was very disappointed, (mkfox - 10/27/2006 1:14:27 PM)
not merely on a partisan or political difference but the fact that the arguments against Webb are just dead wrong, plus they endorsed Ford for the same reasons they should've endorsed Webb.
