latimes.com reports:
In Virginia, Democrat James Webb led Republican Sen. George Allen, 47% to 44%.

In most of the states, the results were generally in line with other recent surveys. But in Virginia, this is the first major poll to show Webb leading Allen.

From bonddad's diary on dKos;  More important now than ever before.

PLEASE PRINT THIS AND PUT IT NEXT TO YOUR BED.  THIS MUST BE THE FIRST THING YOU SEE WHEN YOU WAKE UP AND THE LAST THING YOU SEE WHEN YOU GOT TO SLEEP!!!!

The latest news is good for Democrats.  More and more seats appear to be competative.  The public mood is anti-incumbant.  Congressional approval ratings are at historic lows.  Bush's approval rating is mired in the 30s.  A majority of people think the country is on the wrong track.

More importantly, the Republicans have started into a post-election circular firing squad with each constituency blaming the other for the failure.  Conservative commentators are laying the groundwork against the proposed Democratic leadership.  We've had hit pieces against Reid and Hannity and company are doing everything they can to smear a proposed speaker Pelosi.

It looks like we've already won.

THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK

At times like this, it's easy to get complacent -- to let up on our efforts.  "They've already lost", will be the refrain, let's take a break.  "We've already won."

THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK

I don't care if Bush comes out with a mea culpa, saying he was wrong about everything.

THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK

I don't care if Hastert resigns and says he was entirely to blame for the Foley affair.

THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK

I don't care of DeLay says he was wrong.

THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK

I don't care if the religious right and all of their factions apologize for attempting to create a theocracy.

THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK

I don't care if Bush fires Rumsfeld.

THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK

I don't care if Paulson admits the economy only benefits the top 10% of income earners, and the tax cuts don't pay for themselves.

THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK

We've got a few days left.  It's time to push as hard as we can with everything we've got.  It's time to dig down deep to find more to do, more to contribute, more to get done.  This is not the time to quit, to lay-off, to back-off or to get lazy.

The enemy is formidible.  They have built a great electoral infrastructure over the last 20-30 years.  We have not.

We cannot underestimate their ability.

We cannot quit.

We cannot get lazy.

We are close to victory.  But our actions in the next few weeks will determine whethor we win or lose.

THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK
THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK

And this is all I have to say:

Get to work:

DON'T STOP!!!

Great news! (lwumom - 10/24/2006 11:19:09 PM)
However...the election is not over until all the votes are counted!  Go VA Democrats!

Great news. (Kathy Gerber - 10/24/2006 11:46:39 PM)
I'm trying to finish up a diary about the swift boaters and it should be done w/i an hour unless I just fall asleep here.

me too (PM - 10/25/2006 12:19:23 AM)
it's a longer term thing on the Swift Boaters

we should talk sometime

Yes, we should! (Kathy Gerber - 10/25/2006 6:32:04 AM)
You can email me at kath at skatha.net.  Just put WEBB in the subject if you don't mind.

Work Hard (TurnVirginiaBlue - 10/25/2006 12:07:28 AM)
While this poll is encouraging we're obvious in that classic statistical tie race and we know the history of those!

Ack, ack, ack!

Webb ahead? (libra - 10/25/2006 1:28:56 AM)
Josh, after LATimes: In Virginia, Democrat James Webb led Republican Sen. George Allen, 47% to 44%.

I wonder what poll they're looking at... I check:
http://www.electoral...
daily and, according to them, Webb is still *trailing* by 3 points. They combine the results of the 3 most recent polls, BTW -- Rassmusen, Zogby and Mason-Dixon.

Hoever, if you follow the links from the "most recent polls" >VA, then > "show the trend lines",
http://electoral-vot...
you do get a little crumb of comfort... Allen's line is dipping -- ever so slightly, and Webb's rising -- also, ever so slightly.

We have 2 weeks for to close the gap and make the lines cross. Anything more we can do?

RE: LA Times/Bloomberg Poll (JPTERP - 10/25/2006 2:10:52 AM)
Libra,

These results were from a phone poll conducted by the LA Times this past weekend.  Some background on the phone poll is available at . . .

http://www.latimes.c...

Page 19 has the details the Virginia race.

Josh's point though is the key detail.  GOTV efforts are what moves points.  I imagine phone banking and canvassing are what's most needed.

Did anyone look at Arizona? (thegools - 10/25/2006 10:38:33 AM)
Kyl at 49 and his challenger at 42!

Arizona (AZbirds - 10/25/2006 1:31:17 PM)
I hear that Kyl is ahead in the Tucson, area, which is a surprise to me.  Big rally in Tucson today for Pederson.--I hate Kly as much as I do Allen.  Both cannot think unless GW Bush tells them how to.

This is just one more (Different Drum - 10/25/2006 1:46:55 AM)
This is just one more. It makes us feel good. But it's just one more poll telling us what we already knew.  Jim Webb can win this.  And so could George Allen.

This is it - With under two weeks, it's officially homestretch time.  "THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER.  GET BACK TO WORK."

Allen's money windfall (AZbirds - 10/25/2006 2:01:38 AM)
Virginia, Webb has to stay ahead. Virginia and the country needs Jim Webb.  Anymore news on Allen's quick profit on his land sale to a contributer??

Somebody call the DSCC! (DanG - 10/25/2006 3:22:39 AM)
We need mo' money!  This is a very winnable race!  I bet we see a bunch more polls like this coming out soon.  That is, if we can get our message out!  We need that Warner ad playing in every corner of the state, and we need radio ads in the Third District with Bobby Scott and (please God) the one-and-only Doug Wilder.  We need to get Iraq back in the picture.  With the right ads, we can do that!
HELP US DSCC!

Winning (drmontoya - 10/25/2006 9:52:28 AM)

I see that Bush's Visit Didn't Help "Strangler" Sherwood (PM - 10/25/2006 12:08:33 PM)
http://www.mercuryne...

Latest poll in Pa.'s 10th:  Carney 50%  Sherwood 38%

"strangler Sherwood" (AZbirds - 10/25/2006 1:40:52 PM)
Sherwood should lose, so he would have to stay home with his wife.

What do you have (libra - 10/25/2006 10:35:00 PM)
against Sherwood's *wife*??? She's the injured party already, she doesn't need to be cooped up with him 24/7. He should lose both the election and her. IMO
