Wow, Feder is quite a sparkplug. Absolutely knocked the bejeezus out of a question on Iraq and Wolfs "bipartisan" Iraq study group. Wolf emphasized the need for new ideas on Iraq, and formed the commission to find folks who would put country above party. Feder simply asked isn't Congress suppposed to be putting country above party? Why do we need a commission to do something Wolf and his compatriots should be doing? I am not doing justice to the answer, she really set Wolf back on his heels!
On virtually every issue Feder clearly had a more well though out answer. Wolf, for the most part relied on name-dropping and listing the pork-barrel projects he has secured.
The room clearly had more Feder supporters, they were enthusiatic but respectful of the rules...avoiding inapproriate and prolonged displays of support.
For some reason Wolf supporters simply could not follow the rules, constantly talking and chattering during the whole debate and ignoring repeated admonishments on inappropriate displays. I finally had to turn around and ask the people behind me to button it.
What is it about Republicans and their inability to follow the rules?
Overall a clear win for Feder. I don't know if she will pull it off. Wolf has been around for a long time...but she is really giving him a run for his money!
Wolf clearly didn't want to be there, He kept blinking to the point where I was beginning to worry about him having Tourettes Syndrome. He repeatedly resorted to rhetorical techniques like claiming that 'his committee' funded this or that (NO DUH!!! That's what the Appropriations Committee DOES!). He also continually talked about bills he sponsored or proposed (ethics bill, various studies) without mentioning that none of them ever had a snowballs chance of passing (when your party controls ALL of the levers of congress, shouldn't you be able to actually PASS some of your legislation?).
Judy was clearly more prepared and had substantive ideas and proposals. She also was able to personalize the House Leadership cover-up scandal by relating that, as a dean, she understands the responsibilities of people trusting the well being of their children to you. She repeated her challenge for Wolf to call for the House Leadership to step down.
Judy was the clear winner.
The debate was taped by News Channel 8 and will be rebroadcast later in the month.
In the end, voters were left with a choice: Vote for Feder if the goal is regime change in Washington; choose Wolf if satisfied with his stewardship of the 10th District.
In other words, if you think things are moving in the right direction, vote for Wolf!
If not, the choice is clear. Judy Feder for Congress!
Judy Rocks!
