George Allen Disses the League of Women Voters

See here. In sum, the Allen campaign has pissed off the non-partisan, Virginia League of Women Voters (LWV) big time by breaking their agreement on use of video footage from the recent, LWV-sponsored Webb-Allen debate. Now, the Allen campaign has completely dissed the LWV, causing the LWV to demand that the Allen campaign take down its ad that uses LWV debate footage. So far, the response by the Allen campaign to the LWV has been to strong-arm them. Are any of us surprised by this behavior by the Allen campaign towards the women of Virginia?

George Allen and Women (Arlie - 10/17/2006 6:20:34 PM)
Has RaisingKaine been looking into the widespread rumors that George Allen seriously abused his first wife when they lived in Earlysville, Va., but that the divorce records are sealed and she was moved to Calif. and had to pledge that she would never discuss what happened?
Allen and women vs. Webb and women (mosquitopest - 10/17/2006 6:30:56 PM)
Webb's first wife actually endorses him....LOL...I doubt George Allen's does.
If enough Virginians are too stupid to see through George Allen's delusionary image then they deserve him....
Then Virginia will never get
--good education
--campaign finance reform
--a great internet preserving the rule of net neutrality that allows anyone to start up their own company with a level playing field
--honest government
--health insurance for everyone
--a decent standard of living for the middle class
--good environmental protections for our waterways and our beloved Chesapeake Bay
--forget eminent domain when an Allen corporate crony wants your property
--legislation will continue to be written by corporations to prevent any regulation for the safety and health of citizens
Wow, what a jerk. (phriendlyjaime - 10/17/2006 6:41:17 PM)
It was such a great venue, and the group was so gracious to both candidates; yet he completely goes against his word and acts like he is above promises. He isn't fit to be my dogwalker, let alone my Senator.
It's a basic question of whether you can trust (PM - 10/17/2006 6:52:05 PM)
the person; I agree Allen cannot be trusted.
Now if the Allen campaign felt they had a legitimate beef about video footage on a blog, the thing to do is go to the LWV and complain, etc., and have them referee any dispute. Clearly they were looking for any pretext.
I wonder if the Allen campaign will have the courage to let their sock puppet go on the Mark Plotkin show--as I posted earlier Webb is going on, but the Allen campaign won't get back to Plotkin.
Now think about this. Allen is running from the press, according to Mike Shear. Here's a guy who got a law degree from a good law school, and yet he can't face a news reporter? Would you have trusted George Allen to defend you in court?
Our-dunce-in-chief
The Allen people (Arturo - 10/17/2006 7:51:34 PM)
offend a lot of people, organizations and groups. I lost count.
First the Allen campaign ignored them. (Kathy Gerber - 10/17/2006 8:16:26 PM)
For three days. Most women in my age cohort know that feeling. At least they didn't write back - nag, nag, nag...
We're taking Allen's bait (va.walter - 10/17/2006 8:52:13 PM)
You don't think the Allen campaign knows what it's doing with this? They want this election to be about taxes. They've made multiple ads on taxes. They told the LWV "please don't throw us in the briar patch." "Please don't go to the media and draw attention to our ad." I can't believe people here are falling for it and giving it attention.
Taxes. (Kathy Gerber - 10/17/2006 9:44:30 PM)
-- Millions of federal tax dollars went to contracts filled by Janice Buxbaum's company. She is the woman who lied in Allen's ad. Maybe she wants to continue getting those contracts.
-- Corruption and mishandling of our tax dollars is out of control.
-- Too many of our elderly are choosing between prescriptions and food.
on and on.
That's interesting about Allen possibly abusing his first wife (bladerunner - 10/17/2006 9:20:53 PM)
Allen must have some sort of hold over these people that really know what kind of ugly human being he is. He must've crossed a lot of paths and showed his inner core of a being along the way--and a lot of them are keeping tight lipped because they don't want to be held over Niagra Falls.
Allen and Women (seamusotoole - 10/17/2006 9:22:45 PM)
Main thing that needs to be brought out that this man has no respect for women so why are we surprised that he'd break his word? He's desperate. Tucker Carlson's interview with Gillespie was hysterical. Since when is Allen a feminist? He fought to keep women out of VMI, hung his sister over Niagara Falls, fought against sexual harassment laws in the workplace, etc. He's no friend to women trust me. Wish the entire League of Women Voters would publicly endorse Webb that's what I wish.
I understand Va. Walter's point, but looking at this AP story (PM - 10/17/2006 10:24:01 PM)
(which is what will get picked up all over) Allen's people look bad. And you know, the League of Women Voters is held in high regard.
I do not watch TV. I hope Webb will have an ad talking about how the GOP busted the budget, and how much Iraq is costing us.
I actually think most people are hep to that phony tax argument now.
I'd like to meet Allen and tell him about his lack of veracity.
Maybe he'll spit at me.
Taxes (Kathy Gerber - 10/17/2006 11:01:01 PM)
The people I know who are most concerned about taxes are also fond of saying "the market will take care of it." Well "the market" is so thoroughly contrived and manipulated at this point that it's difficult to know anything.
Tin foil warning. Sort of. The one conspiracy theory that would not surprise me in the least would be to learn that the anthrax scare was a deliberate effort to divert a chunk of homeland security money to biologicals and pharma.
That still doesn't pass the smell test - no pun intended.
I talked to some senior people from the LWV tonight at Judy's debate (Used2Bneutral - 10/18/2006 5:39:04 AM)
They were REALLY pissed off with the Allen campaign, but they were careful in how they expressed it and in keeping their anger to almost less than obvious.... There were news media present and I watched as they let a TV Camera guy from the local public access station also set up. I overheard them explain to him that the use of the content was for it to be un-edited and nothing was to be out-of-context. He agreed and in fact committed that if anything is taken out of context by any candiate, he would supply rebuttal un-edited clips to all the media.
I personally saw last year where the local Republican Party candidate for the 67th district in Fairfax in conjunction with heavy out of state money from the Grover Norquist PAC sponsored the creation of a one minute video clip. The clip was selectively edited and re-sequenced from a twenty three minute campaign launch speech by the Democrat, Chuck Caputo. With the selective editing and resequencing they made that 23 actual minutes look like in the one minute clip that Chuck Caputo was calling for $9.4 billion in new taxes, which was TOTALLY false and manufactured and even involved using a law firm in St. Louis to construct their internet attack site. In fact Chuck called for no new taxes, but listed the things that the present taxes were in fact already being spent on. It was a masterful bit of digital editing that must have cost tens of thousands of campaign dollars to assemble and then integrate into an attack web site as they did with it. From that point on, Chuck's campaign volunteers taped every speech or major public appearance and made unedited DVD copies available to the press and even the other opponent's campaigns when they were requested.... but the copies all had time code imbedded so you couldn't resequence or edit without it being blatently obvious... funny thing, there were no more edited speeches after that and the PRESS double scrutinized everything coming out of the Republicans, which caused them even bigger problems each week of the campaign there after.
I suggest that to minimize these kinds of risks that Webb would being selectively edited again, that this subject of Lies and distortions by Allen be again shown in another rebuttal attack Ad. In fact the clip they used should be shown to say exactly what he intended it to in the exact context it was used.... closing corporate tax loop holes to lower the tax burden on normal average families and their kids in the future. That would go consistently right with Webb's promise to speak to the issues and rise above the garbage from Allen's slime merchants.
LWV (Silver Fox - 10/18/2006 7:10:31 AM)
Sure, tell me how much George Allen and his campaign respect women! And their given word. Does that mean that they seriously offer as an excuse "he did it first" which the Webb campaign did not, by the way. The blogs are NOT funded or run by the Webb campaign. Raising Kaine was in existence before this election cycle started and will go on long after it ends. To justify your actions by saying it's ok to do something because the other guy did it is to give your moral center over to someone else's direction and control. By using that logic, if a terrorist commits an atrocity, we are therefore also justificd in commiting an atrocity...and thus we become what we are fighting.
But to be very accurate, RK had nothing to do with the posting of the debate.. (Used2Bneutral - 10/18/2006 8:29:58 AM)
The Richmond Debate footage was TiVo'd or frame captured, or recorded right off the air and then made available UNEDITED and IN SEQUENCE and COMPLETELY as it aired by some un-paid political zealot who cared more about his country and his state than his wallet and may very well have been a Republican(NOT!!!)
The problems with any video and audio interview is that you can, given enough content and time, make it look like a candidate said almost anything. Jay Leno and other comedians do this all the time to George W. and others...The results can be hilarious, but in the case of how Dick Wadhams uses it in his deceitful, un-honorable, winning-at-all-costs, pursuit of damaging a candidates like Jim Webb.... I gotta believe that Webb with his lack of numerous previous public appearances, very short sound-byte responses, his personal intellect, and especially his level of ethics as well as just his general honesty has made Wadham’s job of finding almost any mud that will stick bordering on impossible. Wadhams HAS TO LIE about Webb or he wouldn't have anything bad to say at all.
Then to make it worse, If they find something no matter how small or how long ago, without exception, unlike career politicians like Allen, Webb sincerely and completely apologizes and fixes it, if he can, no matter what the cost of his time or energy.... WOW, is Jim going to leave an amazing legacy in all his kids for all of our kids as well..... The more I learn, and the more I trust this anomaly in politics call Jim Webb, the more excited I get that just maybe there is a higher plain that is still inhabited by the kinds of people who started this "membership club" called the USA.
You're so on target (Catzmaw - 10/18/2006 8:55:40 PM)
Webb has already given us a legacy in that George Allen will never be able to secure the presidency. My cynicism has been set aside because I finally see someone worth voting for. It's not a question of agreeing with his policy positions, although I largely do; it's a question of whether we have a person of integrity and courage to represent us, to do what he deems best with the trust placed in him. Frankly, I look at that little snippet of him from the Allen commercial, talking about revenues, and I agree. Allen's telling us that Webb is crazy to be talking about how we are going to replace the revenues lost through the tax cuts and the war. How irresponsible is that?
It's insane. In every other war... (Lowell - 10/18/2006 8:58:07 PM)
...the United States has raised revenues to pay for the war. But in this supposed struggle for our very existence, the Republican "leadership" asks for ZERO sacrifice from anyone, even from mega-millionaires and super-profitable Big Oil companies. Why do the American people put up with this crap?
