Dear Friends,

I want to let you know about an important Congressional race that is critical to our efforts to continue moving Virginia forward.

Andy Hurst, a successful young lawyer and father of three, is the Democratic nominee in Virginia's 11th District. Andy is exactly the kind of person we need working for us in Washington. Andy worked his way through college and law school and is now a nationally-recognized expert on health care law. Recently, he was named the Under-40 Lawyer of the Year for his commitment to community service and pro bono legal work.

During my race in 2005 we saw that Virginia is ready for change. The people of the 11th Congressional District are ready to move in a new direction this year and Andy Hurst is exactly the right candidate to reform Washington.

Will you help Andy change Congress? Contribute to his campaign today.

Recent elections show that Andy's district is Democratic. In 2004, John Kerry lost by just a percentage point. Last year, thanks to your hard work, I won the 11th Congressional District by 13 points -- a 14-point swing in just one year!

There are so many important races this year. But Andy's is particularly important to our efforts to win control of Congress in November.

Will you help Andy get his message to voters in Virginia and build on the success of Governor Warner and myself? Make a contribution of $1000, $500, $250, $100, or $50 today.

People across the Commonwealth are excited about Andy's campaign. He began his grassroots effort in 2005. Andy and his team knocked on doors and phone banked for local candidates like Dave Marsden, Dave Bulova, Bruce Roemmelt, Greg Werkheiser and Earnie Porta.

Andy helped us win some great victories last year. Let's do our part now to help Andy. Please contribute to his campaign today.

Andy's TV ad will be on the air soon. The money he raises now is critical to keeping his message on the air, and winning on November 7. Visit Andy's website today at www.hurstforcongress.com to make a secure on-line donation and learn more about his campaign.

I hope you will join me as we work to change Washington by electing Andy Hurst to Congress.

Sincerely,

Tim Kaine

P.S. Every dollar counts -- especially when multiplied by thousands of other Virginians who are committed to change. Your contribution today will help make the difference for Andy's campaign.

the money message (dc blue line - 10/17/2006 3:26:40 PM)
I just sent in $20 to andy, I hope everyone will join me!

I'm with you on that........ (Ambivalent Mumblings - 10/17/2006 9:04:20 PM)
I just purchased a ticket to attend the event, and I'm on a college student's budget.

I saw that (pitin - 10/17/2006 11:13:28 PM)
Thanks bud, that's f*cking awesome.

A tightening race? (Kindler - 10/17/2006 8:23:04 PM)
The combination of big names (John Edwards, Tim Kaine) willing to stand up for Andy, plus the constant onslaught of phone calls, flyers and ads from Tom Davis -- including some extremely negative attacks on Andy (see http://raisingkaine....)-- tells me that this race must be tightening.

I don't think that Tom Davis is spending all that money just for fun.  He has the air of desperation about him these days and there must be a reason for it.  Go Andy!

Everything I'm hearing is that Tom Davis (Lowell - 10/17/2006 8:26:11 PM)
is nervous.  As well he should be, given the huge tidal wave about to sweep over the Republicans...

No offense to Andy, (DanG - 10/17/2006 10:38:45 PM)
But I think Kaine should be spending most of his time with Webb, and with Kellam and Feder after that.

I can see your logic.......... (Ambivalent Mumblings - 10/17/2006 11:39:17 PM)
.... but I would have to respectfully disagree. Should Kaine spend time with Webb, Kellam, and Feder? Absolutely!!!

Andy, however, has also been mounting a surge lately. That becomes apparent in the mere fact that within a matter of just a few days, Tom Davis sent out three negative mailers.

Even the simple fact that Andy has a Committee Chairman on his heals shows that Northern Virginians want some change. Therefore, promoting the fact that we have a great candidate in Andy Hurst will help show that Democrats are legitimate contenders in Virginia. Furthermore, a good showing this year could also potentially allow for more national attention when Andy is running for reelection in 2008.

mounting a surge? (littlepunk - 10/18/2006 12:45:26 AM)
yeah, where?  on the blogs?  he has 75k in the bank.  nobody knows who he is.  i have seen no polls from anybody saying anything - so there is no evidence of any type of "surge."

keep up the blog work - that's your only hope to break 40%.

Davis's vision for the future is campaign fundraising; not Hurst (Andrea Chamblee - 10/18/2006 4:12:48 PM)
Has anyone else noticed that Davis trolls ran out of even the most minor good things to say about him sometime around when Davis signed the Terri Schaivo petition in 2005?

Does Davis have any vision for the 2007-2008 term besides supporting a war in Iraq, torture in secret prisons abroad, bankruptcy a home, and his 2008 Senate bid?  Andy does.

Fighting the Good Fight (Andrea Chamblee - 10/17/2006 11:36:55 PM)
Marc Fisher in today's Post
The energetic challenger tosses out great big slabs of red meat: His opponent, the incumbent, takes big money from the oil and gas industries, supports the war in Iraq and votes with President Bush 90 percent of the time. Judging by the murmurs in the audience, the pesky young Democratic upstart is scoring points.

If Hurst, a 36-year-old lawyer on his maiden voyage into the wilds of elective politics, has a prayer in this race, he must persuade Fairfax and Prince William county residents to focus on national and foreign matters. "Tom's campaign is: 'See that bridge? Built it. See that ballfield? Got the money.' So I have to say, 'Wait, some of the kids he built that field for are dying in Iraq right now.'"
