Sign Hanging: v2.01b

I take campaign signs seriously. Out here in the rural areas, the signs are all some people have seen concerning a particular race. The local media in my area does not cover these races (although the twice-weekly and weekly papers in my area still carry the insipid 'Goode News')

So last spring, during primary season, when signs started disappearing, I took it seriously, of course. Over 25 signs (Webb and Weed) disappeared during that season. The stealing magically stopped when the primary was over.

Well, they are baaack!!!

NOTE: All instances of sign stealing have been reported to the Sheriff, as well as a LTE being written to remind folks that it is a crime to steal from private property.
So here is the way I hang a 4x8 Weed sign now. (I don't have any Webb 4x4 signs)

I cover the entire sign with chicken wire and use enough plastic wire ties that it cannot be a cut-n-run (get it?) operation where they cut 5-6 ties and run with the sign.

I am not saying that these thefts are by Republicans. It seems quite a few juvenile residents just can't do without a big sign that says "Weed" on it to hang in their mother's basement, where they live. Mouth-breathers all.

With this sign at this angle, you can't see the wire very well.

You can see the wire and ties from this angle.

And this angle as well.

Happy sign hanging!! I am going to try to keep up with whoever does this, just like I did during primary season.

It's hard enough to do (Mark - 10/17/2006 11:42:56 AM)
everything there is to do without having to wrangle signs. Lord knows I have enough to do already without it.

Happy sign hanging!!! (Don't get too wet!!!)

Great job! (Kathy Gerber - 10/17/2006 12:18:44 PM)
The stoners get some of our Weed signs.  Well, any young person likes them now.

A few of the Webb signs are "gone" but it looks like the Allen signs are getting hit hard.

Get your Allen signs while they are hot! (Bubby - 10/17/2006 1:48:24 PM)
Because after November 7 they will be riding off into the sunset on a painted pony.

Great practical example Mark (JC - 10/17/2006 2:20:08 PM)
This is great information, thanks Mark.

First of all (Gordie - 10/17/2006 4:19:08 PM)
I blasted Nelson County Times for running "Goode News" articles and demanded egual time for Al Weed. They stopped free political advertising for any candidate. Letters to the editor and paid advertising is all they accept during an election period.

Second I buy furring strips and frame all my large signs. I buy the T bar fence posts and make a rig with a bolt on these posts. Then I drill holes in the furring strip and use 1/4 20 nuts and bolts to secure the signs. On top of the nut I use a self locking nut to make it harder to remove. I do not use tie wraps or any type of mounting material that all a person has to do is kick the sign at the tie wraps and walk away.

Third. They will need a knife to remove the sign or have 7/16 wrench with them. It takes a while to remove that way. Then can pull the posts out of the ground but they will need a big truck to haul away.

Fourth the sign does not bend in the wind and has a straight appearance. The yards they are in people are quite happy will the clean look of the sign and does not destroy the look of their home as much as a sign the bows all over.
