I attended a wonderful event yesterday in Clifton which was hosted by Ellen and Tobin Beck. Helen Thomas, legendary journalist and author spoke to about 100 men and women who live in Little Rocky Run community. She was honest about her feelings regarding the Iraq war and felt, as Jim Webb does, that we had no business going into Iraq in the first place. She is angry with the current administration, which she feels is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, including those serving our country, in Iraq. She is particularly outraged over our troops not having proper armor and protection. Ms. Thomas posed the questions, "Where is the outrage?" "What are people afraid of?" "Why don't they speak out?"
She signed copies of her book "Watchdogs of Democracy" for guests, with personal notes. What an inspiration to see her speak. I sure hope I can have 1/4 of her energy stamina and enthusiasm at the age of 86. She recently appeared on the Bill Maher show. She feels it is essential that we take back the House and Senate in November. She inspired me to get out there and knock on more door and get the vote out. Let's win for Webb on November 7th.
Thanks to the Democratic Women of Clifton for once again helping to have this fabulous event.

She stands up to Bush and Snow (PM - 10/16/2006 5:21:00 PM)
while many of them just play along, hoping to get inside scoops at the White House
I used to see her regularly when I worked downtown.
Friendly faces at Webb events (thegools - 10/16/2006 9:04:13 PM)
I would like to have more friendly faces like that pretty young lady on the left to help table some of our Webb events.

That's Patti and her daughter. Patti by the way is retired military and an avid Webb supporter. She'll be appearing at Webb's press conference for Veterans this week. She's also helped me out on numerous campaigns in Sully District canvassing, doing lit drops etc. The Democratic Women of Clifton have some fantastic members. That goes for Jane Barker too.
