Life's tough for George Allen - he has to rally his anti-choice base without scaring off the ever growing pro-choice majority in Virginia.Doing so means he has to say and do wishy washy things with his abortion position. For example, say he's against federal laws on abortion even though he voted for a federal law on abortion.
Looks like his house of cards is falling apart, as that base has begun to notice George Allen's shallowness even on their top issue:

I have for many years supported reasonable measures to moderate some of the excesses of abortion practices. As a member of the United States Senate, I was a co-sponsor of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, which the President recently signed into law. This legislation prohibits any physician or other individual from knowingly performing a partial-birth abortion. The American Medical Association also opposes this gruesome late-term abortion and says that it is akin to infanticide. Over the years, I have consistently opposed taxpayer funding for elective abortions except the cases of rape, incest, or endangerment of the motherGÇÖs life.How many different ways can you say you don't oppose abortion in one sentence? I think George Allen set a record.
