Anti-choice crowd blasts George Allen for wishy washy anti-choice statements

Life's tough for George Allen - he has to rally his anti-choice base without scaring off the ever growing pro-choice majority in Virginia.

Doing so means he has to say and do wishy washy things with his abortion position. For example, say he's against federal laws on abortion even though he voted for a federal law on abortion.

Looks like his house of cards is falling apart, as that base has begun to notice George Allen's shallowness even on their top issue:

Here is what he said to me in response to my request that he do all he can to end abortion:

I have for many years supported reasonable measures to moderate some of the excesses of abortion practices. As a member of the United States Senate, I was a co-sponsor of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, which the President recently signed into law. This legislation prohibits any physician or other individual from knowingly performing a partial-birth abortion. The American Medical Association also opposes this gruesome late-term abortion and says that it is akin to infanticide. Over the years, I have consistently opposed taxpayer funding for elective abortions except the cases of rape, incest, or endangerment of the motherGÇÖs life.

How many different ways can you say you don't oppose abortion in one sentence? I think George Allen set a record.

1) supported not sponsored
2) reasonable not complete
3) measures not complete
4) moderate not end
5) excesses not all

For more of the same, check out this Red State blog post that similarly blasts Allen on his abortion fence sitting. For these "single issue" voters, their candidate is pretty weak in standing up for their single issue.

more indicative of "Mr. Focus Group" and "Sound Byte" Allen being busted.  Who knows what he actually thinks about policy, if anything, beyond what his corporate lobbyists and public relations teams tell him?
