See here for George Allen and here for Jim Webb.  Nice job by the Connection Newspapers.

The Connection Newspapers ask: Was the Iraq war a mistake?

George Allen answers: "Stability and peace in Iraq is crucial for regional security and also for the security of America. It is in America’s best interest to have a stable Iraq."

So in other words it was a mistake.

Allen's Answers (Teddy - 10/13/2006 8:34:42 PM)
In actuality, I suspect Allen's answers will sound very well thought-out and temperate to many people, even though he still can't seem to give a plain Yes or No answer, suffering as he does from verbal diarrhea. Much better than his performance on stage. Notice how he still tries to tell us what Webb thinks? Another negative lying dig at his opponent in what was supposed to be a straightforward display of his own stand on issues. Does this require yet another LTE? On the whole, the Connection did a good, even-handed professional, journalistic job.

Webb quarterly fundraising tops Allen's $2 million

RICHMOND, Va. -- Democratic Senate candidate Jim Webb received $3.3 million in direct contributions from July through September, about one-third more than Republican Sen. George Allen's nearly $2 million, federal campaign reports showed Friday.

I hope to God he's gonna use some of that surplus on us -- the "lost cause", rural, south-west...

If it hadn't been for Dean's insistence on swimming upstream of the "DC cognoscenti" and their opinions, Dems would never have had so many *viable* candidates in place when the tide began to turn (think Ford for Senate in Tennessee. Or Webb for Senate in VA); we'd have lost our best opportunity to vote the scoundrels out. In fact, my district is still one of those where the house candidate (Goodlatte) is running unopposed. I was asked -- by the Zogby poll -- last night, whether Dems or Repubs represented my views better, locally. And I had to laugh through tears -- I can't answer that question, because I haven't seen a Dem acting on my behalf in I don't know how long...

That poor little kid.  This picture made me cry.  So much for glorious war.

His son's the only one at war (Catzmaw - 10/14/2006 10:40:58 AM)
Webb's never talked much about his family at all, except to note that his son is fighting in Iraq.  And even then, he still hasn't said much about it.  I don't think he believes in trotting his kids out into the public eye.  If they want to step forward and say something, fine, but seems to me he's letting them stay out of the glare of the spotlight.
