Virginian-Pilot tosses Drake a softball

Veterans' votes in Hampton Roads are up for grabs in the Phil Kellam-Thelma Drake race. Which makes this softball lobbed for Drake by the Va-Pilot even more egregious. A single question on troop strength for Drake that allows her to puff out her chest for 12 paragraphs - no follow up questions, no fact checking, no opportunity for Kellam to respond or share his views. With the election a month away, this was a lame move by the areas biggest paper.

Can't get a straight answer (VA Breeze - 10/11/2006 12:23:34 AM)
Drake never answers why the military is stretched so thin-and keeps being sent back to Iraq. Drake's position on Iraq is that all is well-It makes me think of Kevin Bacon's character in Animal House when after the parade is torn apart and everyone is running around-he keeps saying-all is well.

Luckily, the citizens of the second district have a choice-Phil Kellam has consistently said-this can't go on this way in Iraq-we need to ask some tough questions and find new solutions. Now John Warner is saying the same thing.
