If it Quacks Like a Duck...Jim Gilmore for President?

If a politician walks like a Presidential candidate and talks like a Presidential candidate, does that make him a Presidential candidate?  Is that what the Allen campaign is wondering about former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore (R), who was in South Carolina this past Friday, "shaking hands with locals and courting politicians in a state with one of the earliest 2008 GOP primaries."

According to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, "Gilmore would not answer questions about any presidential ambitions," but he "talked and walked like a candidate"  The Herald-Journal adds:

as Allen's political standing has taken a turn for the worse after accusations of racist beliefs made headlines, Gilmore still hasn't let on whether he plans to toss his hat into the ring.

"My impression is, he's coming down here to kind of test the waters -- see how the feel is," Beltram said.

Well, that sure didn't take long...a high-profile Virginia Republican positioning himself in case George Allen does what now looks increasinly likely - loses the election on November 7.  Et tu, Jim?

What a wonderful choice: President Allen or President Gilmore. How gullible, how blind, how memory-challenged can voters be? God help us.

Is Gilmore on a quest... (Loudoun County Dem - 10/9/2006 2:19:35 PM)
...to rid the nation of that pesky Federal Car Tax?

Seriously, WTF does he think he can run on?

He'll run on (Eric - 10/9/2006 2:28:27 PM)
bungling the budget.

After seeing how bad the current Republican leadership screwed the financial well being of the country, Gilmore realized that he can ruin finances with the best of them.

Virginians might be dumb enough to elect somebody like Gilmore, and he might even be able to rustle up some votes in a South Carolina primary -- but they're not quite that stupid in most other states.
