Day 6: "Allen Dodges Foley" Watch Marches On

Well, I've searched Google News and looks at Allen's website again.  And still nothing.  Now, there are unsubstantiated reports in the comments that he has tossed out empty rhetoric in public about needing an investigation and the evils of Foley's behavior.  But I've seen nothing indicates that he's bothered to tell the press or issue a statement that anyone can actually read.  Maybe I'm just missing it - if so, let me know.

And even this empty rhetoric dodges some serious questions.  What money did Allen get from Foley's fundraising (as seen in the picture)?  Will he keep this money?  What does he think about the leadership's behavior in the House of Representatives?  Should Hastert resign as Speaker?  Should he run again to lead the House?

So far, no answers from Allen.  The Allen Dodge Watch continues!

What about Tom Davis, Eric Cantor... (Lowell - 10/5/2006 7:30:26 PM)
and other leading House Republicans?  I wouldn't suppose that Frank Wolf, for instance, would be outraged by this, given his moralistic leanings?

There's Old Felix Allen the racist......full of hate!!! (bladerunner - 10/5/2006 9:53:48 PM)

George Allen should return Jack Abramoff contribution also. (loboforestal - 10/5/2006 10:10:38 PM)

He did that already. (Rob - 10/5/2006 11:09:18 PM)
He returned Abramoff's money
He returned Tony Rudy's money
He returned Foley's money ...

Who's next?

If he did, sorry. (loboforestal - 10/5/2006 11:30:26 PM)
If he did, then good for him.
Is there a link?

Go to my first Watch diary (linked above) (Rob - 10/6/2006 7:30:06 PM)
It has a link to a story from the RTD about his first tainted money dump off.

Do you agree that from his main account Mark Foley gave money to only two people in 2005 -- the disgraced Bob Ney and George Allen?  And why Allen?  He's not even in the House.  Do they have some special friendship?

And why the $2,000 in June of 2005?  At that point I'm sure almost everyone thought Allen would be cruising to re-election?

Anyone know what this is all about?

I'm confused about one of your comments. (Rob - 10/5/2006 11:13:10 PM)
It looks like Foley spread the money around to many people - why do you say only Allen and Ney?

Republicans on panel have ties to Hastert (vote-left - 10/6/2006 12:08:07 AM)

WASHINGTON — Both Republicans on the House ethics subcommittee investigating the Mark Foley scandal have financial ties to Speaker Dennis Hastert, whose handling of the former congressman's lurid Internet messages to House pages is under scrutiny.

Ethics Chairman Doc Hastings received $2,500 during the 2000 campaign from Hastert's political action committee, Keep Our Majority, according to PoliticalMoneyLine, which tracks money in politics. The six-term Washington Republican, who became ethics chairman last year, will lead the Foley investigation.

Rep. Judy Biggert of Illinois, received $6,000 from Hastert's PAC and $2,000 from Hastert's own re-election fund during the 2002 campaign, according to PoliticalMoneyLine.

Just ask Jay Warren from WSLS (va.walter - 10/6/2006 9:16:20 AM)
He's the one that asked Allen the Foley question at the Roanoke event.

Just in case people don't believe me (va.walter - 10/6/2006 10:11:00 AM)
We had a tracker there videotaping the whole thing and Mudcat was standing right behind Warren when he asked the question.

In case anyone wonders why I care, I'm just very concerned with us keeping the moral high ground.  Rs have lied and cheated their way to power for too many years.  I want to win this election but I want to do it honestly.  In this case, Allen has given an on the record statement about Foley and given the money back.  To say anything else is dishonest.  HOWEVER, there are other questions you can and maybe should ask on Foley.

I accounted for your comment (Rob - 10/6/2006 7:31:23 PM)
I said that there are reports that he gave the basic Foley is bad, we need an investigation blah blah blah - empty rhetoric that doesn't answer any of the questions I posed.
